College football is a year away for him but this guy is amazing. I bring this up because I just saw Lemmings top WR recruits for 2004 on ESPN.com. He's #1 on the list. I'm a track coach in FL and have seen him in person a couple times. This is why I'm bothering:

He's 6'3" 190lbs

At a national track meet(Arcadia Invitational)in CA this spring he won the 100, 200 and 400 all in impressive fashion.

Personal bests

100 - 10.38

200 - 20.69

400 - 45.88

40 - 4.35

He did these as a junior.

Remember, Xavier Carter, Palm Bay HS, you heard it here first.

Thanks Cur. I didn't think this post would be wildly popular but it's nice to see someone can appreciate this kid's numbers or, at the very least, thanks for humoring me.

It's okay guys, I didn't really appreciate stuff like this until I started coaching track.

Hasn't signed yet but these are the schools in which he has supposedly expressed interest: Florida, LSU, Miami, South Carolina, Tennessee, UCLA

He wants a school rich in football and track.

Out of those schools UCLA would be the pick, then possibly Florida.

Actually, TCU has probably the best sprint team (track) in the country year-in-year-out. They call themselves the "Flying Frogs", and have sent several sprinters to the Olympics.

And, TCU has had some pretty good teams in the past few years (and a Heisman Trophy in the schools' trophy case thanks to Sammy Baugh), maybe there is a shot they could get on the radar screen somehow...but, prolly not.

He does sound special. When will someone set up a system for us to buy stock in these kids to make some real money? You know, I want in on the IPO! (Oops BSM, there goes my cynicism again - please see my College Grad Rates topic update...)

polksalet:

33 catches for 618 yards, 9 TDs; 20 punt returns for 337 yards; 7 kickoff returns for 206 yards

Whats up with that?    shrug

Those stats are in an extremely run oriented offense as is the case with most high schools. I suppose he's just one of those guys you actually have to see play. An example - More on X Carter

Christmas day there was a big write up, that I apparently missed, in the local fish wrap about the state and local standout football players. They mentioned that X also had 7 TDs rushing and returning kicks.
