The God**** Polls Screwing Ducks Again

I'm a big Ducks fan and am really getting tired of the national sportswriters taking it upon themselves to screw over UofO every year.

Two years ago, the were screwed because a couple sportswriters in the (computer-based :D )BCS decided to rank them 8th when they were ranked 2 or 3 by the rest of the nation. As a result they had to clobber Colorado instead of playing Miami for the championship.

This year the pollsters decided to rank them 5th in the PAC-10 prior to the season. As a result, they are forced to dig their way back into the limelight again.

Ultimately, my point is this. Oregon should be ranked above Michigan. Why? you may ask. It's because they are 4-0 and Michigan is 3-1. They've both played the same level of teams prior to their meeting and Oregon beat them straight up. However, the writers have to save their sorry-assed fat ****ing faces because they consistently place the same teams on the top every year. As a result, you get Oregon at 15 and Michigan at 10. Where the hell is the justice in that?

AP (the writers you're slamming) has O ranked 10, U of M 11 - NO teams with a loss are above O.

The poll you're ranting about is the ESPN/USA Today Coach's poll.

Even as a huge USC fan, you guys did get screwed 2 years ago, and I blame that on the East Coast bias. (I was therefore completely surprised by CPalmer getting the Heisman last year.)

Another problem with early polls is the prior year. With the late swoon, the Ducks suffered and will have to "earn" their way up.

I don't believe in polls before early (or even mid-) October, but I personally like the Coaches poll more than those made up of scrawny writers who never played a down in their lives.

I have also seen, and I'm beginning to consider, those opinions on here that say we should only do polls at the end of the regular season, with the BCS and polls all coming out at the same time. That way the most deserving teams get in (mostly) based on 12 games of work without having to slowly climb up from the (bogus, non-existent) "bottom" of the top 25.

If we can't get a playoff anytime soon, at least this seems more reasonable...

Y'know, I have to say that part of the "East Coast Bias" is the Pac-10's OWN d*mn fault.

I live in the Central time zone, and I have to say that the number of times I see an entertaining Pac-10 game on the dock (generally happy when the Ducks do well, and overall the conference plays entertaining football at a high level) that I'd like to watch but realize that the start time is somewhere around 9-10 PM CST, never mind Eastern time, and end up opting out.

Schedule your games earlier - the Big Ten plays the bulk of its games at 11 am and 3 pm local time; 3 pm PT is 6 PM ET - nice prime time showcase for your league.

Unfortunately, it seems that many Pac-10 coaches/ADs aren't worried about getting the exposure to the Eastern part of the country - so the fans should complain to/about them rather than ranting at "the media".

Hm, with the Ducks' 29-point deficit to the Cougars halfway through the 2nd quarter, it appears the polls were screwing Wazzu.

Fortunately, I can't get the game. I just walked in the door from shopping and checked the scoreboard. eek! doah

Stupid SI Jinx! angry I am now an official believer.

hey look at the good news

OHIO STATE WON AGAIN and now we will have to listen to how bad we suck again on here. and UCS got beat.  WILL WE MOVE BACK UP IN POLLS?

coxxy rules go buckeyes!

Why don't you cry about the Suckeyes in some other thread?

Yet another reason Suckeyes, Bears fans, and Golden Domers are a 3-way tie for most ass holish fans in my book.

Hmm, were the Ducks on the SI cover again, or was it the polls screwing Utah this time? wink

Sorry, just can't help but rub salt in the wound. It looks like the Ducks played their asses off vs the Wolverines and got a HUGE win, but are just another team. I figure they'll make a bowl, but have lost any shot at being a player in the title chase (except as a spoiler).
