gman
OK, LSU homer hear, I admit it. But why in the heck is everyone talking about USC having almost locked up the second spot to play Oklahoma for the national championship? What about my Tigers? After beating #15 Ole Miss today, and Ohio State's loss, it seems to me that LSU should be in the driver's seat. USC beat a sucky UCLA today, and Washington beat Washington State, which weakens the stength of schedule of USC. If LSU beats Arkansas next weekend, then beats a team like Georgia in the SEC championship, how could anyone claim that USC deserves the #2 spot over LSU? Am I misguided, or should LSU be the ones to watch? shrug
gman
Bump for my own amusement. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Anyone? :sound of crickets:
Coffeeman
Trojan fan here - I agree, USC does not have it locked up. Now I have to become an "instant fan" of Arkansas and Georgia, like I did with the Wolverines Saturday. If LSU just barely escapes and USC dominates by over 24 points (again) like all their other wins, then it must be due to "style points" that the human polls can give. On the computer side, if USC's SOS comes out better (lower #) than LSU's on Dec. 7, then I can breathe easier. It's hard to argue with a simple calculation of all the opponents' records plus the oppponents of those teams records. It takes somebody a lot of time to set up that spreadsheet at the beginning of the year, but now there are only 2 more weeks games to input, and it is done. USC got lucky with the #1 SOS last year and it propelled our 10-2 team into the Orange, but then we EARNED the respect by beating the co-champ from a (supposedly) superior conference. This year your Tigers might pull off the sneak attack and get to the big Sugar bowl dance. In the end Gman, it comes down to the strength of the individual team, not the SOS, the best conference or all their opponents. It is not always purely logical; and no, like I tell my 4-year old son all the time, life is not always fair.... eek!
skins
Gman, LSU homer also (wife is a Tiger) and LSU is the one to watch. This is not locked up by any means. Unlike te Redskins season.
untateve
I have a dream that Kentucky knocks off Tennessee and Florida plays LSU for the SEC Championship. When your team has three losses, you dream differently.
Clubfoothead
shrug I'm still trying to figure out a way to get Michigan to the Sugar Bowl. Helping you would hurt me.
Chavez
GmanBut why in the heck is everyone talking about USC having almost locked up the second spot to play Oklahoma for the national championship? Am I misguided, or should LSU be the ones to watch? The main problem is that right now, LSU is JUST getting into the meat of their schedule; USC is sitting pretty at #2, and LSU has two pretty tough games coming up vs Arkansas and the SEC Championship. LSU could catch USC, but the chase is fraught with peril. A loss to Arkansas or in the SEC title game sends them fading away.

It will be interesting to see how things pan out if they do take both of these steps without stumbling. Here are 2 links that may help clear up the very muddy situation.....well at least a little. link 1 link
Coffeeman
Thanks for the links - good stuff. Alright Gman, with remote at the ready, I have a new mantra for this weekend. (Last week it was "Go Trojans and Go Wolverines".) Ready? Here it is: Go Vols, Go 'Noles, Go Hogs, Go Dawgs, Go Hawaii and Go Domers! And then on Dec. 6: Go Trojans and Go Dawgs! thumbs_u
