crispirons
and how much is just for show. i suspect that alot of these deals/trades that we see "live" on draft day are nothing but staged theatrics. i'm not saying all of it....but i would guess a decent percentage....say 40%. i just don't see how all these deals could each yr just fall magically into place on one day. Azazello1313
i'm sure a lot of it is sitting there waiting to happen, contingent on certain players being available and all that. i doubt there are many draft day trades (at least on the first day) that weren't at least discussed well before the draft. godtomsatan
I'm sure there's a lot of scotching done, without a lot of hopping, at the NFL meetings over the winter and on the phones and such that solidify things before they actually take place. Chargerz
It was mentioned in the SD Union-Tribune that the Chargers management is meeting for eight hours a day for two weeks before the draft. In addition to discussing players much of what they discuss is strategy regarding potential draft day moves. I'm sure the other clubs do the same. Last year was a good example, actually. I read somewhere about how the Giants and Chargers had a pre-draft agreement to swap the #1 and #4 picks. Both teams had an interest in Robert Gallery and there was still uncertainty where he would end up. I think the Chargers just wanted to make sure that either Gallery OR Rivers was still there at #4, before trading down. I still happen to think they would have taken Gallery instead of Rivers, but that's not really the point.
