CaptainHook
Of course, Ryan Leaf was number 1. It was amazing looking back and seeing the ridiculous behavior he exhibited. It got me thinking, what would it take to knock Ryan Leaf out of the #1 spot? I think that to lose the #1 spot, someone would actually have to play like Leaf did and then burn down team headquarters as local news was taping in the background. Glabra
That list left a lot to be desired. Dayne at 16 behind Enis at 12-13? The All-time leading NCAA rusher and Heisman trophy winner should've been top 10 if not higher. No Akili, no Jeff George, and Couch at 6? Doesn't make much sense. It'd be very hard to top what Leaf accomplished in a short but glorious career. I remember in the first game of that season(or was it pre-season?), he went 13-27 or something like that with no INTs and about 160 yds, while Manning threw a couple of INTs in his debut. There was talk all over about how it had been proven what a big mistake the Colts had made.

CaptainHook
Akili Smith got lumped into the Bengals Bungles, which was actually number 19 on the list. I don't think George was a bust. He had the talent. He had a long career, including several very good years. He was just an idiot.
Glabra
Yes, regular season. 783684[/snapback] Have you heard about the Brain Type Institute? They had analyzed Leaf(among many other prospects, of course) and warned the Chargers to stay away from the guy because his brain type was the worst suited for QB play from among the 15 categories they use to classify brain types. Manning's was the top or #2 type. Leaf's brain type was supposed to be good to be a pitcher it seems They've had some other pretty good success stories in terms of player predictions. George had a long career, but weren't there long gaps of inactivity as well?. I'd still say that given his draft position as the overall #1 pick, JG was a bust. Chargerz
All I can say is that Ryan Leaf was a "natural" at being a jerk and an underachiever. Easy n Dirty
I'm always surprised at how everyone seems to remember Blair Thomas as a bust, which he was, but you never hear mention of Lam Jones, a wide receiver taken #3 overall by the Jets maybe ten years earlier (I believe Thomas also went #3 overall, maybe #2), and who had career numbers pretty similar to Blair Thomas in terms of years played and yards from scrimmage.
