My mother used to make a cake she called icebox cake..It was a layer of graham crackers, a layer of vanilla pudding, another layer of graham crackers, then a layer of chocolate pudding then crushed graham crackers on the top...Delicious..

Must be country folk. Not many city slickers know the delights of rhubarb. My grandma made jam, too.

Yessir, still have a patch of both the green and red. Been picking it about a week now. Rhubarb Pie is pretty gosh dang good also. :D

 

And also go blackberry, wild raspberry and wild huckleberry picking every year.

my mama would turn orange juice into frozen popsicles.  They were awesome.  We were poor.

:D We used to do that too..You would put it in that tuperware ice pop maker..On payday we did it with Hawaiin punch

Mom makes a dish called picnic cake.  Cake with brown sugar, dates, chocolate chips & walnuts - all topped with fresh whipped cream.  :D

:D I thought that was just an urban legend! I mean, I've seen it on the box of Nilla wafers, but I've never actually had it.

 

My mom used to make these cookie bars made of chocolate chip cookie dough, chocolate chunks, caramels, and crushed graham crackers. Holy crap those were good. :D

my mom didn't cook or bake much when i was growing up.

some of my current favorites in general:

baked alaska

choclate lava cakes

apple tortes with caramel and vanilla ice cream

chocolate bread pudding with some sort of creme anglaise

creme brulee

 

 

and good ole rice crispy bars

 

edit: oh yeah...i am a fiend for gelato
