Jaguars studying Law

In need of a cornerback, team will work out veteran free agent today.

The Jaguars will take a look at free agent cornerback Ty Law today.

Coach Jack Del Rio said they'll bring the veteran in for a workout and a physical to see if he's recovered from a serious foot injury.

"If he's healthy, we're interested,'' Del Rio said. "We're going to give him a physical and see where he is. We're doing our due diligence.''

Law, 31, was cut by the Patriots after last season. He suffered a foot injury last Oct. 31 in Pittsburgh that sidelined him for the rest of the season.

Law, who underwent surgery at the end of the season, suffered a rare injury called a Lisfranc fracture, which is named for a field general in Napoleon's army.

The injury is to the area between the forefoot and the midfoot. It used to be suffered by soldiers falling off their horses who caught their feet in the stirrups. It's also an injury more common in automobile or industrial accidents than in football.

If the Jaguars believe Law will be able to recover from the injury, they will then have to decide how high to bid.

Law had a $12.5 million cap number, including $9 million in new money, when the Patriots cut the four-time Pro Bowler.

The Jaguars could use a veteran corner opposite Rashean Mathis. They have looked at several players on the other corner during the spring drills, and second-year player David Richardson has got one of the longer looks. Rookie Scott Starks, a third-round pick, could challenge Richardson.

The Dolphins were looking at Law as well but rumor has it that Law and his agent wanted a 3 year deal with a pretty large signing bonus. Pretty steep for someone comming off a significant injury. The Dolphins wanted to tie in a bunch of performance clauses which Law's agent declined.
