Marauders11
or can't you? I am wondering how the bacon will stay on the steak if you are flipping it on the grill etc.- I never eat bacon wrapped filt personally but was thinking about making it for some friends we are having for dinner.... Do you use toothpicks or something? won't they burn up? Sorry to sound dumb about this but I am sure some Huddlers must have the answer. Thanks

SuperBalla
Use tongs. Wrap the bacon around the steak and use wood toothpicks that aren't colored. Cooking tongs Edited July 21, 2005 by SuperBalla
Perchoutofwater
You can get these little metal thingymajiggers. Truthfully you can use toothpicks. Just soak the toothpicks. If they get burnt you cooked the filet way to long anyway.
Marauders11
I never get bacon wrapped filet 889203 then you are obviously of no help to me which is why I posted instead of calling you
twiley
Soak some small wood skewers in water for about 30 mins. I'll adjust the grill so that one side is searing hot and when it comes time to serve I'll turn the filet on it's side and sear the bacon. Jimmy Neutron
Use tooth picks, soak 'em in water for 10 minutes and they won't burn too bad.
Big Country
Or, to be more creative/flavorful, take some fresh rosemary and cut the end at an angle, and voila, a natural, more flavorful skewer to hold your bacon on.

darin3
I never get bacon wrapped filet 889203 Why not? Filets are the least fatty cut of meat, hence they tend to dry out easier... hence the bacon. Or, to be more creative/flavorful, take some fresh rosemary and cut the end at an angle, and voila, a natural, more flavorful skewer to hold your bacon on. 889230 I've tried this... and toothpicks always do the trick, too. What are you doing staying up watching Food Network? 889235 Well.. they have several shows dedicated to BBQ.... um, or so I have heard And Rachel Ray can be hot.... I'd let her lick brownie mix off me anytime. And I like Iron Chef and even Iron Chef America since they make things I would actually conider eating. Big Country
But, the best way to cook a filet is to cut it in half, insert a layer of Cheez-its, and then tooth pick it back together and cook it that way. At least I bet DMD would agree....

A simple bit of salt and pepper can do wonders. Lately I've been doing a few splashes of Worcester (sp?) Sauce, a little soy sauce, some black pepper and a little garlic powder. Not a ton, but enough to let the flavor get in there. Grill away and it is quite tasty. Can go for some heat in a rub with a mix of salt, pepper, some cayenne or chili powder and a little garlic powder. Give the meat a light rub all over with that, and grill so it gets a nice sear locking in those flavors. Yummy, but has a kick to it. I'm a fan of Tyler Florence and Food 911 and ven better is How to Boil Water, as that one keeps it simple and have done several of the recipes from that show and they turned out good.
