  1. The Mythical Tourney returns with the 3rd first round matchup, and it should be a good one, as #6 Texas takes on #3 LSU. The Key for the Longhorns might be the running of Benson, and he gets off to a good start with 61 yards of rushing in the first quarter, including a 3 yard TD run. Given the way the LSU defense has played down the stretch, that is an impressive beginning for Texas. LSU's only score of the quarter comes on a short FG from Gaudet, and at the end of one it is Texas 7, LSU 3. The LSU defense does a bit better at the start of the second period, but they are called for a questionable interference penalty on Texas best WR Williams, which sets up a Pino FG. Mauck shows his poise in big games and moves LSU down near the goal line with a nice strike to Clayton, but again the Tigers have to settle for a FG. The last 7 minutes of the half is all defense, and the teams go into the locker room with Texas holding a slim 10-6 lead.
  2. Muck, the other 2 first round games will be this week.
  3. Navarre does make a big play early in the 4th as needed. He hits Perry with a nifty screen pass that goes for 42 yards down to the 8. From there Perry runs it in on 2 carries and the see-saw battle is once again in Michigan’s favor 23-20. Krenzel cannot respond this time as a pass is knocked up in the air and then picked of by Michigan. Rivas makes another FG, but Michigan takes the points off the board on an Ohio State penalty. The risky move pays off as MVP Perry gives Big Blue the final margin at 30-20. Michigan will move on to play USC in the semi-finals
  4. Often times a rematch in the college football world can produce a disappointing game, but the first round Sun Bowl has been excellent. Perry goes over the 100 yard mark on Michigan’s first drive of the 2nd half, but it can only produce 3 points on Rivas’ 3rd FG, a chip shot from 21 yards out. Ohio State drives into Michigan territory, but must punt it away. However, the punt pins Michigan back at the 2, and they are unable to pick up a first down. Ohio State takes advantage of starting on the Michigan half of the field, and Krenzel pounds it over the line himself from 2 feet away, and Ohio State has the lead again at 20-16. Teams exchange punts to end the 3rd quarter, but Navarre will have to do something in the 4th quarter if Michigan is to pull it out of the fire.
  5. Sorry, busy at work - 2nd half today - next 2 first round games early next week.
  6. First half of the Sun Bowl with Michigan vs. Ohio State: After a bit of a struggle as to who would take the field first, there is a huge struggle as to who would take command of the game Perry is running the ball a lot, similar to the first game, but with a little less success. The first quarter features only 6 points of scoring with Nugent and Rives matching FG’s of 35 and 37 yards respectively. Navarre makes the first really big play of the game, on a run of 14 yards to pick up a 4th and 2 in Ohio State territory. He then hits Edmonds on the games first TD. Ohio State gets another Nugent FG and then takes a temporary lead on a Jenkins catch of an underthrown Krenzel pass. The first half of the game can produce nothing better than a draw as Rivas nails his second kick on the last play of the half. Sun Bowl Halftime: Michigan 13, Ohio State 13
  7. I think you did a great job with the spreads, only one I may have questioned was today's game, but we will see...
  8. The 2nd half is not nearly as competitive as the first. Leinart settles down and is 9-11 in the 3rd quarter including a TD to his favorite target Mike Williams. After a FSU punt USC scores again with Leinart leading the way, and White punching it in on the ground. The only slip up is another blocked kick, this time a PAT. The end of 3rd Quarter score is 23-3 FSU can get no closer than 26-10 in the 4th quarter on a Rix pass to Davis, but in the end it is USC as quite an easy first round winner, 33-10. USC advances to the final 4…
  9. I know the post is a bit odd, but ESPN 2 is doing something very similar - but with 16 teams. Anyhow - Beautiful weather for today's Orange Bowl with USC and FSU. The Seminoles win the toss, but defer to the 2nd half. USC shows some of their offensive fire power on the first drive, but a holding penalty inside the red zone limits them to a FG by Killeen of 36 yards - the best play of the drive was a nie grab by Colbert of a high pass by Leinart. Leinart seems a little excited and has really been firing the ball. White picked up 2 first downs with runs. FSU picks up one first down on their first effort with the ball, but little else. Jones running fairly well out of the shotgun, but Rix one completion was too short for a 2nd first down. A poor punt puts the Trojans in good position for their second drive - and the take advantage. Leinart hits Williams with a beautiful 30+ yard pass inside the 10, and then Williams runs a revers down to the 2. Reggie Bush gets the glory on the 2yd dive, and USC has an early double-digit lead. A punt by both team on their next drives follow, and the 2nd quarter is a sloppy one with numerous yellow flags and poor play on both sides. FSU has the best drive of the quarter and Beitia brings FSU bag into range with a 40 yard FG. Right before the half the Trojans have a chance to extend it to 10 once again, but a Killeen 32 yard effort is partially blocked and falls harmlessly to the ground. At the half, USC 10 FSU 3
  10. Thanks Muck! And Coffee, this post is not for everyone - well maybe it is hardly for anyone - but what the heck...
  11. Muck, they will be held in the traditional site of each bowl game. Hope that helps...
  12. Well, it was harder than ever to come up with the 8 teams, let alone put them in order. Sure to catch alot of pain for the selections, but the mythical seedings were as follows: 1) USC 2) Oklahoma 3) LSU 4) Michigan 5) Ohio State 6) Texas 7) Tennessee 8) Florida State So the first round matchups are as follows: Orange Bowl: USC (1) vs. Florida State (8) Sun Bowl: Michigan (4) vs. Ohio State (5) winners to play in the Rose Bowl Gator Bowl: LSU (3) vs. Texas (6) Cotton Bowl: Oklahoma (2) vs. Tenn (7) winners to play in the Fiesta Bowl Good Luck to all, action starts Wednesday - hope somebody steps up as the line-maker.
  13. Seeds and matchups come out tomorrow - I do need a point spread and over under line maker. The mythical action will start on Wednesday. Who will be the top seed? Who will be numbers 2 and 3? Can K-State or Georgia get in with 3 losses? Can a one loss team from a small conference get in? Wait and see...
  14. You know K-State may have won the whole thing the first time around - I remember Gramatica kicking like 14 FG's in the 3 games... Good Luck this weekend K-State -
  15. How does it work? Well, it is all in my head, based on how I think the game would go if the two teams met, taking into consideration current injuries and current form of the teams - plus the location of the bowl game they happen to draw into. The last few seeds will certainly be tricky, have to see what happens over the weekend. Some of the interesting questions would have to be, do you take a 3-loss Georgia team over a 2-loss Tenn, FSU or Miami team? Tenn beat Miami, and Miami beat FSU, do those results make the difference. As was mentioned, Miami (Ohio) is up to 11 in the BCS, would another win put them over the mass of 2-loss teams. Check in and see on Monday. The first time I did this I had K-State making the finals, and then they went out and lost the Big-12 championship game. The year Oklahoma went undefeated they won this tourney in a thriller over FSU, turned out to be right on the money. I think I had Miami beating Oregon the year that the BCS took Nebraska instead.
