  1. Thanks, I was leaning towards Helu for the reasons you stated. I guess I was hoping some beat writer I haven't been able to find actually saw and wrote about who was getting first team snaps.
  2. I couldn't find an official Washington backfield thread, so I guess I'm starting it. Does anyone know which of these two guys ran with the first team this week? Thanks.
  3. I'm keeping Ahmad Bradshaw and Jamaal Charles, so need to declare 3 of the following: Randy Moss - Is he done? James Jones - New #2 in GB next year? Pierre Garcon - Does he finally take the next step next year? Dallas Clark - Does Tamme cut into his PT next year? Josh Freeman - #7 QB this year, should be better next Yeah, it was a tough year all right. No salary considerations here; they're all worth the same. Standard scoring, no PPR, start 1 QB, 2 RBs, 3 WRs, 1 TE, 1 K, 1 DEF. Thanks to any and all replies. -GdP p.s. Enjoy the NFL postseason and the long off-season ahead, Huddlers!
  4. I was surprised to see Austin ranked #4 in the "Rest of the Year" rankings. Maybe I'm panicking too much with Austin? You make good points about Kitna, but he got those numbers with Martz. Hopefully Garrett can do something with him. Romo, with that oline, going down against the Giants? In hindsight, I should've seen this coming.
  5. Ouch! So much for my lock of the week! Hope I didn't talk anyone into it with my take-it-to-the-bank logic.
  6. Me, too. Maybe in the 1,000,001st year, but not before.
  7. I actually think the report was a bit overblown. He basically said he was disappointed, but that's the business. He's reported to everything up until this point, so I think he'll be fine. If anything, he should be motivated because his next contract should be the last big one he gets. He was a steal in the 4th for you, even in an 8-team league. Good luck.
  8. Foul, although I don't like the no-waivers-before-the-season rule at all. Part of the fun between the draft and the season is noodling with the fringes of your roster, plus if someone gets hurt (or cut, in this guy's case), no one is hosed. That said, your league started with this rule, so you should live with it. Either way it breaks, though, I wouldn't let it ruin your enjoyment of the season. Good luck.
  9. This year I spent a whopping 96% of my cash on starters; but over the years I usually spend only about 85% to 90% on starters. This year there were just the right mix of starter-caliber players I wanted badly and deep sleepers I liked enough that it worked the way it did.
  10. No Okung and Mike Williams is the #1 WR? 49ers -3 is the lock of the week.
  11. A few thoughts: 1. A lot of beginners get too gun-shy, wait too long for bargains, and then end up with left over dollars, which helps no one. Don't be that guy. I suggest you think of the auction in terms of an ADP list. If you have a "fair auction," you'll end up with one 1st-rounder, one 2nd-rounder, one 3rd-rounder, and so on. Of course, you want to do better than fair, so you should try to "move up" in the draft by purchasing higher round players without sacrificing too much elsewhere. This will boil down to finding bargains, which means sticking to a price list (like The Huddle's) and not overpaying for anyone (unless you really like someone, then it's probably okay). Just remember that if you opt out of 1st round talent, then you should expect to buy a lot of talent ranked in the 2nd and 3rd round. 2. More than anything, practice, practice, practice. Check out http://games.espn.go.com/ffl/mockdraftlobby and participate in at least one mock. You'll learn a ton just by trying different strategies. I can't stress this enough. 3. With a flex spot, I highly recommend you plan to start 3 RBs. I think this is one of the most misunderstood concepts in flex leagues. Think about it this way - a decent WR will get you about 1000 yards and 8 TDs. There are a LOT of running backs that can get you that kind of production. Cadillac Williams had 1040 total yards and 7 TDs last year and he'll go for a lot cheaper than a WR projected to get you the same number of points. At the higher end, The Huddle has projected Andre Johnson to go for 1520 yards and 10 TDs, while Rashard Mendenhall is projected to go for 1580 total yards and 10 TDs. I guarantee Rashard will go for a lot cheaper than AJ in your auction. You'll have a lot more control over who you get in an auction, so I would make starting 3 decent RBs a priority if I were you. 4. Make sure your cheat sheet fits your league settings. For example, let's say you have 12 teams, 15 roster spots, and $200 salary caps. This means that your values for the top 180 players (12 teams x 15 spots) should add up to $2400 (12 teams, $200 each). 5. Don't spend more than $1 each on your kicker and defense. You'll thank me later. Good luck! -GdP
  12. I'm relatively new here, so I'm not sure what this forum was like before (i.e., before whatever happened to this place happened). But aren't you being a little harsh? I'd rather sift through a few extra MJD threads than have to worry about whether I'm starting a new thread when I shouldn't if I want to contribute something. Just my two cents. As far as MJD is concerned, those are some interesting stats to throw out. I haven't been avoiding him, but other people generally like him better than I do (and I do mostly auction leagues), so I've rarely gotten him. It's hard to say whether that is indicative of how he does this year or not, though. I remember in 2003, 15 of Peyton's 29 TDs came in three games. I was telling everyone who would listen to avoid him. "Iinconsistent!" Of course, the very next year was his record-breaking 4557 yards-49 TDs-10 pick season. Go figure.
  13. I see a few reaches, but this is a perfectly reasonable draft. It just goes to show that one man's late 4th-rounder is another's mid-2nd. All I have to say is, don't make me regret falling for you, Jamaal! Make it happen! -GdP p.s. 8 months down, 2 days to go! Yeah!
