  1. Not wrong... Gee CW, I'm curious if you know how many NFL QB's have had Tommy John surgery??? Before Delhomme, it was Craig Erickson and Rob Johnson. I think it's more fair to have expectations similar to an MLB pitcher, than a 7-9 month period as you indicated. Mostly due to the fact that neither Erickson or Johnson had much of a career prior to their surgeries to offer a fair comparison to their post-op results. Don't underestimate the age factor in his recovery either. Fact is, this is uncharted territory for Jake, and please don't read my post as an indictment on him, I was a big fan of his over the last 3-5 years, and regularly had him as my #1 or #2 QB in several leagues. I'm just looking at what the most likely scenarios could be.
  2. As a Steve Smith owner in my most competitive and longest running league, I am also very curious about what the QB situation will be in Carolina. Delhomme is done, he's having Tommy John surgery at the age of 32, and last I checked this is a procedure that takes at least 12-18 months of recovery for MLB pitchers to come back to a glimpse of their old selves. That would have Jake at 34 years old, and how can Carolina hold on to him at that age, with no reassurances that he'll be anything close to what he was???? I think David Carr is completely 'shell-shocked' from the 1,437 sacks he suffered while in Houston and it has permanently affected his psyche! So, who's available? Coming out of college is Brian Brohm (L'ville), Colt Brennan (Hawaii), and who??? There doesn't seem to be a decent QB prospect this year. Veterans that could be available might include: Chad Pennington, Donovan McNabb, Chris Simms, Rex Grossman, & Daunte Culpepper. Do any of those names look like the long-term answer? I don't think so. I'm a die-hard Eagles fan and have always looked at #5 with the most optimistic of outlooks, however the injuries appear to be happening more and more and his accuracy is no better today than it was the day we drafted him out of Syracuse. Pennington is a competitor, but his arm strength is questionable and as a Smitty owner, I'm praying they get a big arm to deliver him the long bomb. Simms could be an inexpensive gamble, but not very comfortable with him either. Ironically, Culpepper might be the best option out there. What's even more fitting is that Carolina was the site of his vicious knee injury. What a way to put those 'demons' behind you, other than joining that franchise and playing on that field 8 times a year. Culpepper definitely has the big arm to get the ball to Smith, but he's no spring chicken. However, given his track record and add to that the likelihood that he'll probably be cheaper than some other options. He might be the best choice. I do agree that getting a more consistent #2 (Jarrett?) is important, making the move to DeAngelo to be the feature back, and address some holes are defense are definitely things the organization SHOULD address, but I need to be selfish and worry about my #1 WR! Carolina should be starting the Tim Tebow in '09 campaign NOW!!!!
  3. So much for that idea.... Ding dong the AINTS are ded!!!!
  4. What boggles my mind, and I'm the proud owner of Colston in 3 of 4 leagues (thank goodness he's at least doing something)..... How did it happen? They returned the same exact offensive team, only lost Joe Horn, who has done NOTHING in the ATL. I'm writing this as TEN just missed a FG and there's 4:49 left on the clock. If the AINTS come back tongiht, maybe its the start of something special, again.
  5. Flip, got an ugly one for ya.... PPR Flex needed and options are: Marshawn Lynch vs. NE DeAngelo Williams vs. ATL S. Holmes vs. SF Thanks for the help! DR
  6. TPW, I went with those I thought were the best matchups, hope it helps. Check out my post on a flex option, thanks for the help in advance.
  7. Tough choice, in one league I'm using Wynn over the likes of T.Bell and R. Brown. While in my main league, I'm thinking about using D. Williams over M. Lynch, because I think Carolina is going to crush ATL this week, therefore I think Foster is a decent play too. I would lean towards Foster, but not by much.
  8. Fitz is one of my most fav players in the league, but with the talent you have at WR and the favorable matchups for the other guys, its totally understandable to bench Fitz. However, a wise man once told me to ALWAYS start your studs. Good luck!
  9. That's an awfully solid four, first of all. I'd lean towards benching TO, which I know is totall crazy sounding. But, because of the quality of your other 3, you're not losing much. I like the other three matchups better. Tough call, good luck!
  10. Big fan of Davis, he's a beast and should be due for a big game.
  11. Gil, Need help with a flex decision in PPR format... M Lynch, DeAngelo Williams, or Santonio Holmes? I'm already using Delhomme Jordan Maroney S Smith Colston B Edwards ?????Flex????? S. Graham Also, if you can help out with IDP choices, that would be cool.... J. Allen or T. Cole at DL R. Lewis or DJ Williams at LB D. Sharper or B. Sanders at DB You rock Gil, keep up the good work!!!! Thanks, DR
  12. I'm leaning towards Lynch, even though he's going to be facing the toughest RUN D in the league, just because he could still get 15-20 touches and we do play a PPR format. I'm thinking the DeAngelo could have a big game and Santonio is my only bench WR worth a mention. I'll be sure to look for posts and respond in kind from anyone helping me out! Thanks, DR
  13. Not sure I would drop Jackson at this point. Can you add Wynn and still have Jackson on your roster. I think that a lot of this recent news might be "coach-speak" to motivate the rookie. Try to remember its only 2 games. I bet if you drop Jackson, next week he'll be picked-up immediately! I'm sitting on him in two leagues, so I'm right there with ya.
  14. Gotta agree with several posts here, that its all gonna come down to your rules. If it states SPECIFICALLY that negative points are awarded for negative yards, then you have a case. Otherwise, I think you're out of luck this year. All my leagues deduct points, and it does suk when your QB drops to a knee two or three times and ends up with negative .5.... Good luck! I would also recommend, that if you want to introduce it to your league have a rules discussion in the offseason to possibly implement the negative points.
