  1. The doubtful tag probably does it but what the Giants do with Ramses Barden might be another signal. Barden took 1st team reps but is still on PUP. Giants need to activate him soon for him to be available tomorrow.
  2. Kinda par for the course with WRs. DMD's book covers WRs and Huddle does (or did in the past) those repeatability preseason articles. This is why I've always been a little skeptical of the strategy. The high rate of turnover suggests there will be some top 10 and 20 WRs available well into the draft and if you take them early and often you're more likely to miss. Especially in the 5-12 WR range. I haven't seen an updated analysis of this but it sure seems to hold true and the repeatability rate may actually be getting worse.
  3. Sorry but injuries are just the cost of doing business in the NFL. Sure there are guys who do the wrong things. But for the vast majority, it's just the name of the game. Missing a game or two or three has become the norm. The season is long and requires careful management to make the playoffs and beyond. Teams and players know that. Many things are factored in to a decision...their record, opponent, injury severity, remaining schedule, game plan, matchup etc. We're past the 'old school, tape 'em up and grit it out' era.
  4. IIRC, Bradshaw had a similar (same?) injury a couple years back and, again IIRC, he played through it. Would be good to know if it's the same injury or a new one. 2009 linkage 2010 linkage Cracked ankle and foot bones. It's a FF nightmare which is why I've always stayed away... Just a FF horror show in waiting but a testament to Bradshaw's grit.
  5. Olsen is 6th best and is a Shockey knee or concussion from top 2/3.
  6. Can't speak for The Huddle but Cook has been coming on the last 2 weeks. Some think he'll pick up some of the slack due to Britt's absence. The limited snaps are a problem but he has the goods...link. My money is on Williams here but Cook has a real shot to up his game.
  7. This is probably the worst of it. I had no doubts about his ability to play through pain. For me, what tipped the decision in favor of a trade was his weight and conditioning. He looks heavy and sluggish which only compounds his pain and likelihood of another injury.
  8. I tend to draft at least one player like Gates every year. The other angle to this is that the Chargers usually don't start 4-1 under Turner. If they keep winning then there's no reason to keep Gates on a full snap count. I really see a scenario where Matthews and the run game, after 3 years of muddling through with an overworked LT and Matthews' rookie season, finally gets going again and diminishes the need for Gates to move the chains and get all those RZ TDs. I cut bait 2 weeks ago via trade. Whenever the positive news is that scar tissue tore which will allow it to heal stronger, time to move. But maybe that's just me.
  9. I could not believe what I saw there. They were actually moving the ball a little. Get a shot at a FG, down by 5, and get the ball in the 2nd half. I really can't think of any other team or HC in the league that would do such a thing.
  10. Or you could, ya know, just choose to not go to work and opt for paying fines and foregoing pay. Freedom and all that.
  11. Don't laugh. I recall one or two threads from about a month ago pimping Rex over Ryan.
  12. 3 pickles by the Sex Cannon...there's a huge difference between what he's capable of and what he actually does. It's why teams keep taking chances on him and expect different results. It's a shame really because Kyle Shanahan's offense could be a FF QB machine.
  13. There's a Huddle player news item re: Gonzo suggesting they should go to no-huddle. This means less Turner and more Snelling (or maybe Rodgers). I'll tell anyone who'll listen...the offense runs better overall when Turner is not on the field. Gonzo's comment isn't so much a dig at Turner as it's a dig at Smith and Mularkey's philosophy and stated preference to get back to a run heavy/play-action game. I don't agree Turner is overrated. If anything he was underrated, carried a heavy load a few years ago, took 2 years to fully recover, now 4 months shy of 30 and on a team that wants to commit to him but really shouldn't. He's a good back but good in the way Cedric Benson is good...he needs the offense to run a certain way (ie. a sustained commitment to the run) but it's a recipe for scoring in the low 20s and the defense just isn't good enough. Roddy, Jones, Gonzo, Douglas, Weems and (to a lesser extent) Snelling or Rodgers are a dynamic group of guys who under a dynamic system like the Colts or Pats or GB could do a lot of damage even with a guy like Ryan at QB. They'd need a little more depth (another athletic TE would help) but the core guys could do it. Ryan will probably be stuck at what he did last year but they need more and that's really up to Smith and Mularkey.
  14. This is a major part of it. Tons of deep outs, curls and out and ups. Rarely are guys moved around. Zero novelty from Mularkey. People love Turner but the offense runs better with a versatile guy like Snelling...and Turner turns 30 in February. Oh, and when Gonzo retires they're in deep sh*t. Ryan's arm strength worries me more than anything. It's just not very 'live'. Not sure about the Manning comparisons but Ryan seems to have been around forever already but he is still kinda young at 26. His stats are showing some progression but some of what we're seeing is running up against a Mularkey wall.
  15. I should've put that differently. He got an extension and I don't have any insider knowledge. The extension negotiations seemed more contentious than they needed to be. Harbaugh had to actually rebut rumors of a damaged relationship between Gore and the club. It's never good when the HC has to reaffirm anything. Given Gore's injury history and new offense, I can see Gore falling out of favor pretty quick.
