Good discussion, I am now much more aware of pelican rights.
But seriously, interesting story about the casino Cowboyz1. It sounds like the phrase started as a term of admiration (the Indians with red warpaint), then became a widely used derogatory term and in today's world has mostly lost its meaning outside of being the name of a pro football team. As Cowboyz1 said & that poll shows, low on the list of Indian issues. But I think it is a stain on our history and should be changed.
I don't totally buy the money argument. Changing the name would generate plenty of money, especially if it's a good name. If you go from the Redskins to the Cherry Blossoms (that was pretty funny & spot-on for DC) yeah there'd be a drop in value. What I don't want to do is start having to change every Indian-related name in the country, which is what some people want to do. So I'd like to see the Redskins change their name to some other Indian-related, fierce sounding name, maybe something related to the tribe that originally lived in that area. For instance, what did that tribe call warriors?
