  1. I just tried it in a 12 team Omega draft. I got the 12th pick. I took Holt, Fitz in one and two. I ended up with Julius Jones, J Lewis, Gore, C. Brown, F. Taylor as my RB's. I WAS VERY HAPPY WITH THAT!!!!!
  2. I've been trying for a couple years to get into a No Mercy ladder league for a while now with no luck. Is there such a league with IDP's? I would even help start one up if we had enough owners interested. We could then see who the king of IDP really was. I was thinking along the lines of 1qb, 2rb, 3wr, 1te, 1k, 3dl, 3lb, 3db. Naturally, that could be decided later, along with the scoring. I like ppr on the offensive side with .05 for RB, 1 for WR, and 1.5 for TE. I also like strong IDP scoring so they are as valuable as the offensive guys. Wouldn't mind having some flex spots. 10 to 12 team leagues with at least 3 leagues to start out with. Thinking along the lines of the Top league being somthing like: IDP Commanders, next IDP Sergeants, and IDP Privates, etc. etc. etc. We would probably have to set up some kind of overall Committee (3 or 4 guys with good IDP knowledge) to help set up the leagues. I would want it to be run very professional with good owners. Something that is going to last. Here is how it would work: Once we are set up all new owners start out in the Privates league. The top 4 owners get to move up to the next highest league next year. The next best 4 owners get to stay in the same league again. The last for owners get moved down a league or are totally eliminated from the leagues. Hence you have to be good to move up to the top league. We could have a little money on the line or no money at all on the line. That could be decided later also. Any thoughts from some IDP veterans? I'll post it in the appropriate forum also, but just wanted you guys to see it and get some thoughts.
  3. I’ve been offered WR Andre Johnson for RB W. Dunn. Here are the particulars. Starters: 1qb,2rb,2wr,1flex, 1te, 1 def, 1k (16 man rosters) 1 point for receptions, Wr bonus at 75 yds, 100, 125, etc. My team now: QB- McNabb, McNair RB- D. Davis, Portis, Dunn, Staley, Blaylock WR- J. Smith, R. Smith, Bruce, Battle, Ferguson TE – Shockey D - Phila K – Wilkins Portis and DD had their byes last week. I wanted Harrison, but he doesn’t want to trade him right now. Should I take AJ? I have been using Dunn in my flex spot. He is getting about 10 a game. Duckett seems to be coming on though. Bruce and Battle are both hurt now. I guess it’s a choice between a starting lineup of 1. McNabb, DD, Portis, Dunn, R. Smith, J. Smith, Shockey, Wilkins, Phila 2. McNabb, DD, Portis, R. Smith, J. Smith, A. Johnson, Shockey, Wilkins, Phila. What do you think, I’m not sure I should even do it for Harrison.
  4. Since I advocated “The Peyton Manning Draft Strategy”, I thought I would keep everyone up to date on how things are going each week. Anyone else that followed the strategy or just took Manning in the first round can update their season here also. I have him in Phenom's FFL Omega League. He had one of the toughest match-ups he’ll have all year, except for when he play the Patriots, this week. Two TD’s and 254 passing yards were good enough for 19.96 points in my league scoring. My two starting RB’s were Westbrook (20.60) and Jordan (13.50). Just a little above average from them if you combine the scores. I like to at least get 30 points out of two RB’s in most scoring systems. My three starting WR’s were Mason (17.90), Coles (12.60), and Muhammed (11.90). Who to start at WR’s was my toughest decision of the week. I was going to start Coles no matter what; I figured they would be in a shoot out with the Chiefs. That didn’t happen, they looked terrible and Coles dropped some easy passes that would have been huge. My big decision was with the other two. It was between them two and McCardell. I was pretty sure on Mason, just because I like his talent and figured they would get behind and have to pass some. Boller at QB was my only indecision with him. Muhammed was going to get lots of targets because he is the only option in the Bears passing game and he catches a lot of short passes. I also knew they would have to pass some, because Washington would stuff the run. The negative was the rookie QB Orton. I figured McCardell would get more targets than usual with Gates out, but still wasn’t sure if he really was the No. 1 WR on the team, and how many LT would get also. I went with my gut feeling and started Muhammed. Obviously, it was a bad decision, as McCardell went off and had 37.30 points. Heap was my starting TE; he didn’t see many targets and only scored 7.80 points. My Kicker Wilkins had a good day with 15.00 points. I had a slight lead on my opponent going in into the Monday night game. He had McNabb and I had Westbrook, and the defense. I ended up winning by a comfortable margin of 135.49 to 105.45. Losing the 25 points by not starting McCardell didn’t come back to haunt me. Over all – Manning will only get better after this week; he did miss an easy TD to Harrison in the first half. My two RB’s were solid, I liked the way Jordan ran and caught the ball on Thursday and Westbrook was a big part of the Eagle game plan receiving and running. He’ll have better rushing stats against some weaker defenses than Atlanta, and Jordan just needs to get in the end zone. I noticed he ran on the goal line initially, so not as worried about Crockett stealing his TD’s. I will have decisions to make at WR all year with those four guys. McCardell proved to me that he was the No. 1 WR for the Chargers. I will pay close attention to how having Gates back influences his production. Coles can’t do anything but get better. I think Mason and Heap both will be better with Wright at QB. Muhammed will still get lots of targets and the Bears will improve throughout the season. The Eagle defense looks good. Hated to see them lose Trotter last night. I may look for a TE on the waiver wire this week, in case Heap continues not to be targeted enough. I’m very happy with the results from week one, 1-0 baby! Sorry such a long post, I'll edit it down next week!
  5. Wow, that looks like a great team to me. Especially in pts per reception. I would take that team right now in any ppr league I play in. Westbrook at 3.05 was a steal. Staley will be back, and Kennison and Key are always under rated. Moats would have been good backup for Westbrook. I think someone mentioned this earlier in this post, but it can't be said enough. Manning plays 16 games a year, he never gets hurt. That's proven year in and year out. Many of the top RB's don't play a full 16 games. I would be interested in knowing how many of the top 5 RB's in one year that played 16 games, come back following year and play 16 games. Maybe its higher than I think. Food for thought!
  6. I really think there are a lot of people secretly that would like to take Manning or Cpep. Most of us longtime "Stud RB Theory" owners, including myself, have never had a top 3 QB on our team. I am just throwing out a strategy that might work. I took the plunge in two leagues with it. So you guys don't have too. I think it will be interesting to see how it turns out. I'm still a stud RB guy, however it never hurts to look at other options and even try some. I like to cheer for the guys I pick. I like watching Manning play the game, so I thought I would see if it was reasonable to draft him just one year. I think a lot of guys think this way. The biggest thing you need to look at is the scoring for the QB position. If it has 4 pts for TD's, it might not be so good. But 5 or 6 could work. Plus, many leagues have bonus points for going over 300 yards passing. Depending on how much they are, it could make a big difference. This also brings CPep in the picture, because he is a big yardage guy. Either way, it will be fun to actually watch Manning play this year and not chew my fingers down to the bone because the guy I'm playing has him and he already has 3 TD passes in the first half. Well,I'm not a numbers guy at all. But I took four different scenarios using some projected points for each player. Maybe not the most logical way to look at it, but it was interesting to say the least. I matched up the draft positions as best I could with ADP's. Scenario #1 1.05 Manning Proj Pts. 472 2.07 Barber Proj Pts. 306 3.05 Jordan Proj Pts. 218 4.05 Clayton Proj Pts. 272 Total Proj Pts. 1268 Scenario #2 1.07 Portis Proj Pts. 310 2.05 CPep Proj Pts. 396 3.07 Caddy Proj Pts. 158 4.05 DJax Proj Pts. 284 Total Proj Pts. 1148 Scenario #3 1.01 LT Proj. Pts 401 2.12 S Jackson Proj. Pts. 259 3.01 McNabb Proj. Pts. 367 4.12 Boldin Proj. Pts 228 Total Proj Pts. 1255 Scenario #4 1.04 Edge Proj Pts. 337 2.08 CMart Proj Pts. 290 3.04 Walker Proj Pts. 276 4.08 Bulger Proj. Pts. 367 Total Proj. Pts. 1270 Now 4,1,3 are the best projected points. That's with 4 pts passing TD's and no bonus for yardage. That would definitely be to Manning benefit on TD's and Cpeps on yardage. All four scenarios are good and could easily be a great start to a team. Just thought it was interesting.
  7. I would add, that both leagues are with pretty experienced owners for the most part. Some real Sharks! So the draft positions should be legit.
  8. I'm in some other leagues, and have been a long time RB guy, so I just tried it in these two. I wouldn't mind giving some updates as the season went on if you guys would be interested. That way you wouldn't have to try it for yourself, I would be the guinea pig. It will be interesting to see how it turns out!
  9. I think the same strategy would apply to CPepp also. You may have to take him a little earlier, or wait on your second RB until round 4,5,6. Example, you could take Portis at 1.10 and Cpep at 2.03. Then take a couple good WR's, especially if everyone else already have RB's. Even a top TE could be and option. Then pick up two RB's in round 5 and 6. They'll still be some quality there.
  10. After thinking hard on this for a long time I believe I found an acceptable way to draft Manning in the first round and not ruin your season on draft day. I have been a long time advocate of the stud RB theory. Many times going RB, RB, RB in the first three rounds. Just like the perfect draft suggest. But this year, I tried the Manning draft strategy in two different leagues. I think I ended up with quality teams in both situations. The first league I tried it in was Unluckys’ Omega league. I ended up with the second overall pick in the first round. The first thing I did was look at how players finished with last year stats. Culpepper and Manning finished about 100 points ahead of everyone in total points. That was a huge difference compared to most other leagues I played in were they only finished 40 or 50 points ahead. Touchdown passes are worth 5 points in this league. When you compared LT and Manning stats, Manning scored a total of 451.84 fantasy points (30.12 avg.) LT scored 335.62 fantasy points (22.72 avg.). Both played in just 15 games, since they had the playoff rapped up during the last week of the regular season. Now, don’t get me wrong, I would have taken LT with the first pick. Since I had the second pick, I thought I would investigate further. The Omega League also offers bonus points for 300 and 400 yards passing. You get an extra 4 points for each of those milestones. Manning threw for over 300 yards seven times last year, and over 400 two times. He also had several games with 250+. I can’t see any reason why he won’t throw for 300 in at least half his games this year. The second thing I did was look at all the available RB’s. I put them in two groups, legit starters, and questionable starters. Obviously, your list will be different than mine, but it should still be similar. In this league, RB’s get a half of point per reception. I didn’t take past injuries into consideration at all, but did consider injuries that have kept them out of training camps. Taylor, Staley, and Davis are the guys that came to mind. I put 19 players in my legit starters list. From LT to S. Jackson. I looked at their average draft positions and tried to make an educated guess as to who would be available at pick 2.11 and 3.02. The possible players that could be there on my list included: Westbrook, Rudi, S. Jackson, L. Jordan, C. Martin. I made a second list that included my questionable starters. The second list included: Barlow, Bennett, Staley, Arrington, Taylor, Dunn, T. Jones, D. Foster, Caddy Williams, C. Brown, and T. Bell. I again looked at their average draft positions. Ideally, I wanted to get two backs from the first group and at least one from the second group. (Risky, but very possible) Although, I would be satisfied with one RB from the first group and two RB’s from my second group. (Absolutely can be done) By looking at past drafts I assumed Cpep and at least three WR’s would be taken in the first 22 picks. So that would be 17 or 18 RB’s taken by my 2.11 pick. I was hoping the league wasn’t full of RB hoarders. I went into the draft with this strategy. The draft began like most with LT going No. 1. I took Peyton at 2, and then watched the rest of the stud RB’s go off the board. Moss was the only non-RB taken in round 1, besides me of course. That’s what I had hoped for. The second round went like this; Tiki, Dillon, JJ, Holt, Green, Owens, Harrison, CJ (to my delight), Martin, and Cpep. It had actually went better than I thought, only 15 RB’s had been taken. In most cases, that will give you a margin of error of 15 to 18 RB’s taken before your second pick. I then took my top rated RB still on my list, Westbrook. I actually had him rated higher than several of the guys already taken. The next two picks were S. Jackson and J. Walker. That meant only 17 RB’s had been taken in the first two rounds. I took L. Jordan at my 3.02 pick and never looked back. At that point I figured I had managed to take Manning in round 1 and not hurt myself at all. I took Foster, L. Coles, and Heap with my next three picks and picked up Staley in the ninth. My strategy had worked like a charm. This strategy can work for you if you have a top 3 pick. In the second draft I got the 6 slot in the first round. I decided to try experimenting with “The Manning Draft Strategy” in this draft. I really didn’t think Manning would fall to me at 1.06, but when he did, I had to take him. I then took the best RB available in round 2. The difference in this draft and the other was I had the 2.07 pick in round two. Amazingly 15 RB’s had already been taken off the board by my pick. Much more than the prior draft. I took S. Jackson. At 2.07. Now, I obviously figured out, that RB’s were priority to the owners in this survivor league. With RB’s being hot commodities, none of my first list RB’s were left at my 3.06 pick. Which I figured would happen in most drafts. I had a decision to make. I could take a RB off my second list way before their ADP and when they represent some value, or take value at other positions. Almost all the teams already picked two RB’s, so I figured they would start taking second tier WR’s and QB’s next. I also new that some of my second list RB’s would be available later. Since I already had Manning, I took H. Ward with the next pick, knowing that he would probably be gone by round 4. Now I was SCARED! I have never gone three rounds in a fantasy draft without at least two RB’s. I was right, top TE’s, second tier QB’s and WR’s started flying off the board. When my 4.07 pick came up, I new I had weathered the storm with only two of my second list RB’s being taken. My sleeper, Foster, was still on the table along with several second list backs. I took another chance that at least one of those RB’s would make it back to me in the fifth, although probably not Foster. I took N. Burleson with my 4.07 pick. Now I was really PETRIFIED. Only one RB thru 4 rounds! Five RB’s were taken between my 4.07 pick and my 5.06 pick. Bennett, Caddy, C. Brown, Barlow, R. Brown all had been drafted. I snapped up Foster like he was the last Buffalo Wing on the platter. I had him rated higher than all of those backs. This draft is still going on, but I like my start. Manning, Jackson, Foster, Ward, and Burleson should be strong. Probably stronger than the guys who went RB, RB in the first two rounds. I also picked Larry Johnson and Staley in the 6th and 8th round. This strategy carries more risk compared to the one with the top 3 pick. But, It can also pay off if you don’t panic. Several quality RB’s can be had after the third round. (See below) 1. Chris Brown ( Great player when on the field) 2. W. Dunn ( Awesome value in ppr league) 3. Arrington (See above) 4. Bennett (Moving down because of recent injury) 5. Ronnie Brown (Will have 4 weeks to show his stuff) 6. F. Taylor (Top 15 back in most years) GREAT VALUE 7. D. Foster (No. 1 on run first team) GREAT VALUE 8. L. Johnson (Risky, but great reward) 9. C. Benson (Dropping, because not in camp) 10. D. Staley (Bettis even said he was the guy when he gets back) 11. K. Barlow ( Chance to redeem himself) GREAT VALUE 12. Duckett ( Solid ) 13. M. Moore ( Moving up rapidly, best back on team) 14. Ricky Williams ( If Brown fails, he will produce) 15. Lee Suggs ( Can he stay healthy) 16. Mike Anderson ( No. 1, right now, on run first team) STEAL 17. R. Droughns ( Moving up) 18. T. Henry (Can produce if given chance) 19. T. Jones (Most under rated of them all) DOUBLE STEAL You may not win your league, but you won’t lose it on draft day like many people think. Here are a few simple rules to follow. 1. Only use this strategy in leagues with twelve or less teams. 2. Use it in leagues that have favorable QB scoring - Passing TD’s are worth 5 or 6 points, bonus points for over 300 yard passing. (Thus, making Manning more valuable) 3. If you in are the first 3 draft slots, go RB, RB in the next two rounds 4. If you are in drafts slots 4 to 8, go RB in the 2nd,and best available in the next two rounds. Don’t panic and take a RB way before he represents value. 5. Don’t wait until last minute on RB’s you like, take them at least one round before their ADP 6. If you are drafting 9th or later, you probably aren’t getting Manning! This post is about draft strategy, not rating my team or draft choices. Thanks, and I would be interested in hearing your take on this strategy?
  11. I'm picking eight in a pts per reception league, 12 teamer. I know these guys will be gone when it gets to me: Lt, Priest, Alexander, Manning, Edge, Duece. I have been waffling back and forth over these RB's 1. McGahee - has the best ADP, but still unproven too me. Rook QB 2. Portis - Can't do worse than last year, can he? Catches the ball 3. Lewis - Doesn't catch the ball, but could rebound strong from last year. 4. Tiki - Great in pts per reception, can he come close to last year. ADP? 5. DD - see above. Injury risk? It would be nice to grab two of them, which one has the best chance of making it to me in the second? We can start 3rb, 2wr or the opposite. Thanks!!! ( A Portis, Tiki start would be stellar!) I'd probably go take a RB in round 3 if Cmart, Jackson etc. fell that far. Opinions please.
  12. The big four RB's, Alex Smith, B Edwards, Shelton, H Miller have been taken. I'm looking at Mike Williams, Frank Gore, T Williamson, Morency, Moats etc. Im looking at the hardest at the first two. Maybe I should trade down, what do you all think? Here are the players I already have: RB - Dillon, S Jackson, D Staley, G Jones, S Davis, R Lee WR - Boldin, Burress, Moulds, Reg Williams, Warrick Looks like I could use the depth at WR, but I hate waiting for young WR's to develop.
  13. NOW THAT IS THE KIND OF INFORMATION I WAS LOOKING FOR!!!!!!!! THANK YOU VERY MUCH STORM. ANYONE ELSE CARE TO CHIME IN?
  14. I'm drafting in a new 16 team dynasty league right now. We are through 27 or so rounds. First time IDP owner, longtime ffl player. Here is my defensive players so far. We have a 45 man roster. The 46th - 50th round is the rookie draft. You can start either a 3-4 defense or a 4-3 defense. 2de, 1dt, 3lb, 1 flex(LB,DT), 2 cb, 2 safeties. Naturally, I'm looking at going with the 3-4 most of the time. LB Mike Peterson Zach Thomas Al Wilson Dat Nguyen Derek M. Smith Larry Foote SAFETY Sammy Knight Sean Jones CB Jerry Azumah Phillip Buchanon DE Adewale Ogunleye Richard Seymour DT Dewayne Robertson Albert Haynsworth I feel like my LB crew is very solid. I feel like my DE's are weak. Who should I target at this point. Most of the top 25 guys at each position are gone. Any deep sleepers out there like they target on the offensive side of the ball. (players coming off injuries, young guys drafted high not given oppurtinity yet, etc.) Especially on the defensive line, were I feel I need the most help. You can take a look at my draft overall and give me some ideas if you want. It would be greatly appreciated. (I'm Mitch Bush) http://football.myfantasyleague.com/2005/home/74827 I have a feeling the bones are going to be picked clean. The defensive side of the ball is where I am a little (lot) weak at, as far as up and coming young talent.I know the rookies pretty well (Davis, Johnson, Thurman), just not the one and two year guys. We are in round 30 now. So I have 15 or so rounds left. I need to get some young backups on offense also, how far should I push them down the list? Guys like J Payton, J Wells, T Romo, J Sorgi etc.
