TimC
I'm a hugh Ramsay fan. Hell's Kitchen, Kitchen Nightmares, The F-Word, everything. We've been dying to go to one of his restaurants, but the closest one is in New York City. This season on Hell's Kitchen, he's opening up one at the Borgata. If you've never been to Atlantic City, and I don't neccessarily blame you, the Borgata is a little slice of heaven in Jersey. We are dying to head up there now and try some Ramsay food. Any inside info on when it'll be opening and any details, Shiek? Me and my poker buddy playing friend will be heading up in early Septemberish to play in a satellite for the WPT event, but I think, with Ramsay there, Tina and I will be up sooner than that. I actually had no idea the entire season was filmed at the Borg. Big place, ya know? I also didn't realize the guy can actually cook. Wiki says he's received 14 career Michelin stars in his career. I thought he just screamed at people. Hows about we get a group together when you come up in September and we'll check it out?
TimC
Hows about we get a group together when you come up in September and we'll check it out? Sounds good! We'll get some of you New Yorkers and we'll invade. My buddy is hilarious. He's as far from a redneck as you get, but when playing poker up there, he wears a John Deere hat and gets his Southern accent on. It totally puts people on tilt and they hand their money over. The first episode of Hell's Kitchen showed all the high-end Borgata restaurants. See 5:45-6:15 I'm gonna have to do some research on when they open the place. I'm assuming the episodes were filmed a few months back.
darin3
I don't think it's being filmed at the Borgata. He films the show at his Hell's Kitchen restaurant in Los Angeles. The winner of this season will be the executive chef at the new Borgata restaurant. He did the same thing with a couple new resorts in Vegas. SheikYerbuti
The first episode of Hell's Kitchen showed all the high-end Borgata restaurants. See 5:45-6:15 OK, I just watched that entire clip. I've never seen a single second of Ramsay's TV shows. That was pretty bad. The contestants look like they're a combination of Amateur Night at the Apollo and an episode of The Real World. And what's with Ramsay? How is it enough to just say "This is crap" and "This is good"? How about a critique of what's wrong with the bad dishes rather than just going Simon Cowell on their asses? I'm going to add it to the Tivo, but I don't know how many episodes I'm going to get through before giving up on it. At least on Top Chef they get a professional appraisal of their dishes, not just a tantrum.
TimC
It's an act for TV with all the cussing for Ramsay, that much is certain. However, he is definitely a perfectionist. I completely and totally respect that 100%. I wish I could treat others like that (not so much the cussing, but the drive for everything being perfect everytime). I would love to be working with a group of people like that. When you don't screw up and buy-in to his ethic, you are treated like a king. It would be great to surround yourself with people like that for me. And I'm not just talking about cooking, but in any type of business. I think I've had too many idiot people around me that just didn't care for too long.
policyvote
OK, I just watched that entire clip. I've never seen a single second of Ramsay's TV shows. That was pretty bad. Kitchen Nightmares, especially the older episodes filmed in Britain, are really good. He goes a little apepoopy at first, but then he does a lot of team-building, relationship fixing, etc., and you can tell he really really really cares about the people and the food. I saw HK for the first time after being a big fan of Kitchen Nightmares, and I was appalled. The talent sucks, and Ramsey just runs around screaming, kicking, and throwing sh|t. It's a total act designed to appeal to American TV audiences, and I don't watch that show as a result. Yeah, KN has quite a bit of swearing and shouting, but it's all within context. From what I can see, dude is an outstanding chef and restauranteur. Some of the promotional and menu ideas he comes up with are jawdropping . . . moreover, the first thing he does is preach local, sustainable, fresh ingredients and executing the basics well . . . all stuff I'm down with. Peace policy

I can't think of any context where cursing and shouting is acceptable behavior in a work environment. What a retarded example to set for people. What a retarded example to set for people. ETA: Well like, he goes to a place, meets everyone, shakes hands, orders and eats the food. Then, he comes into kitchen, asks to see the walk-in. Everything is rotten/moldy/nasty. Head chef's half-eaten lunches are in there. Asks chef when walk-in got a thorough cleaning; is told "yesterday". Ramsey calls dude a f-in' lying tw@t who he can't believe had the bollocks to serve him rotten food, and he's too f'-in' busy to f' off and die today. Seems legit--and enteratining--to me! nogohawk
My wife and I are huge fans of the band Chicago and they usually play the Borgata mid-summer. We've stayed there a few times over the past years - usually eat at Bobby Flay Steakhouse. Might have to try this one if they are there in 2009. Always a great place to see a concert and hit the casino afterwards - then crash in a room upstairs. Our little treat to ourselves!

keggerz
supposedly the reason he screams etc and the talent is horrid is because he looks at it has a boot camp of sorts and it is easier for him to break them down and teach them what they need to know than to try and do that to a season set in their way chef (someone here I think linked to an article that discussed this)
AtomicCEO
The British Kitchen Nightmares are great because they focus on restaraunt and food problems... the US Kitchen Nightmares focuses too much on personal conflicts. That's typical. It's the same way they ruined Junkyard Wars after bringing it to the US. My wife and I want to go to the NY Ramsey restaraunt for our anniversary this year. Czarina
I think HK is hysterical. Keeping in mind that what we're shown is a mere fraction of what actually happens on there, I'm sure that he does more of the helpful stuff at other times. Showing him being a teacher/mentor isn't going to garner ratings, it just isn't. Train wreck of the week is what it's all about.
