QUOTE(Big Palooka @ 8/16/05 09:29pm)
I expected that some of the guys I "signed" today would be bid up near the 6:00 deadline, but it seems odd that every player I signed was bid up to the max bid, without anyone going over. Before I start screaming conspiracy

(or coincidence?)

a question for our illustrious commish, are the signed players currently being acquired by current bid at the deadline, or the max bid?

Palooka, it is quite likely that a person bidded up a player to your max. For example, for a number of players (something like 5-7), I would bid $1 more than the current bid (and sometimes more than once). If my bid tied your max bid then you would keep the player. If you were already at your max bid, then I would get the player. If I noticed that my bid was rejected for being too low but then when I went back to the board and saw that your bid was now equal to the bid that I had just made, I would know that you were at your max bid--and then I would really have to think about whether I wanted to spend that extra dollar for the player or not. In a way, a drafting strategy is a little like Russian Roulette (and can explain not only why your players got bid up to their max, but also why I ended up with both Baltimore and New England when I only really wanted one of them).
