A division championship and a first round bye, pretty much locked up with 1 week to go (assuming FWP doesn't go off for 60+ points for Fear and Loathing). yay.gif

Good game KSU. Fitz decided to show up big time this week. I have a feeling I'll be seeing you in the playoffs.

Good luck to TOS and Headbangers in battling it out for that other first round bye.

This year may end up the same as last for me, tied for the best record and get a #4 seed mad.gif

Somehow, I'm feeling like having one division is the way to go , like the Empire w00t.gif

I'm also in another league, where a team will miss the playoffs, while having a better record then one of the division winners............hardly seems fair (please don't compare this to the NFL, this is FF ) . I think a team that plays in a horrible division already has a massive advantage, now to give them more of an advantage just for winning that division, doesn't set right with me

I am currently on the losing end of that in another league... 2nd place in total points (not too far behind 1st) and fighting tooth and nail for the last playoff spot. I take the good with the bad, and just hope that I am not on the losing end of it too often.

In Empire, I thought your points are fairly low, but currently are sitting as the 4 seed so it's working to your advantage (as well as mine, thanks to record). That's a different issue than divisions, but if you are ulitmately going to get rid of divisions, sometimes I think you might as well just go by total points.

In either case, you know you're going to the playoffs and all three of our teams are close in points if not in record.

I was considering the system that many on these boards had shared of taking the top 3 teams based on the H2H standings rankings, then take the other 3 spots based on total points. Everyone is one division like the Empire, that should really be the fairest way to determine the top 6 teams, imo.

I'm not bitching by any means, I'm just contimplating different formats for playoffs seedings in my head for next season, to bring fourth to my locals. I don't think that a team who has a decided advantage by playing in a weak division, should also be rewarded a playoff spot over a team in a better division having a better record or seed for that matter. This system is okay for the NFL, but this ain't the NFL and all owners should be open to discuss anyway to determine the fairest possibilities on the top 6 teams.

Maybe take the top 2 teams based on W-L records
take the top 2 teams based on total points
take the top 2 teams based on the MFL power rankings

Now, of course the top 2 may be the same in several categories, so you obviously take the next team in line.

To determine the seeds from the top 6 , you'd average W-L , Total Points, and Power Rankings and that would give you the best to worst of those 6.

This is the first time I've said this out loud, and I think I really like that system smile.gif

Generally speaking, there may be one team that is left out of the playoffs that really should be in it. However, that is on occasion and not every league in every season in my experience. I am talking about that team that has very good total points, but because of luck of the draw, their record is subpar. Otherwise, the good teams generally make it. While it's not fun to be on the losing end of that, it makes for an exciting finish.

Do you like the 1 division like the Empire or the tradition 3 or 4 divisions?

Also, I am in 4th spot in the Empire, am with my points , really don't deserve a playoff bid, so I'd have no problem with a system that took a better team over my lucky team. If you go into the season knowing this, there is nothing to argue with it. My question is, would you consider a tweaking of the traditional playoff seeding for a system that would be more efficient to have the top 6 taken on a yearly basis ?

Ask me that after next week in Empire as I could easily go from my current 3rd place to 7th place and out of the playoffs if I lose and have a bad showing. smile.gif

Seriously, I am not entirely sure what I want, but the three division set up makes it interesting. In 9 out of 10 cases, the best teams win the division (in terms of total points) and the other teams, such as you or Headbangers will get into the playoffs, but not get the first round bye. The best way to combat that (and my vote) is to leave the divsional set up as is, have everyone pitch in an extra $25 bucks and reward the higest regular season point scorer and maybe even the highest point scoring team that finishes outside of the playoffs. Just an idea, but it would protect that unlucky team who misses the playoffs with high scores and rewards the regular season's best team aside from head to head.

Just a thought...
