Rules for NFL Playoff Fantasy Contest
- $20 per contestant – Money must be paid prior to kickoff of the second week.
- Must pick a lineup for each week of the NFL playoffs (including Super Bowl)
- Each lineup must contain a QB, 2 RB’s, 3 WR’s, TE, and kicker (No defense).
- You can only use each player once during the 4 weeks of the playoffs.
- Official NFL scoring will be used for the contest.
Scoring:
- 4 pts for a TD pass
- 6 pts for a TD run or catch
- 2 pts for a 2-pt conversion run, pass, or catch (A 2-pt throw would be worth 2 for both the passer and the receiver)
- 1 pt for every 10 yards rushing/receiving, to the nearest tenth of a point (81 yards rushing = 8.1 pts, etc.)
- 1 pt for every 20 yards passing, to the nearest tenth of a point
- 1 pt for every kicker PAT
- 3 pts for every field goal
Payout - Will be something along these lines, depending on the amount of participation. If we have 10-12 people like the past couple of years, it will not change. If we have significantly more participation, the only thing that may change is that the overall 3rd place contestant would get their $20 back.
- Overall winner (cumulative for the 4 weeks) – 50% of the pot
- 2nd place overall – 25%
- Single-week high scorer – 25%
Strategy:
Obviously, to pick the right players on the right week is the basic strategy. However, you also must decide which teams you think will advance in the playoffs, and which ones won’t. If you decide not to pick a player for week 1, assuming they’ll win and have a better matchup in week 2, and that player’s team loses, you lose out on using that player for the contest. Furthermore, you must pick strategically, keeping in mind that the number of teams in the playoffs is 8 in weeks one and two, four in week three (conference championships), and only two for week four (Super Bowl). Picking the right quarterbacks and kickers, especially, can be critical during the first two weeks, as the options will diminish later in the playoffs (especially the Super Bowl). Pick the wrong players in the first couple of weeks, and you may be forced to pick a backup quarterback for the Super Bowl, for example.
Bottom Line – Whether it’s feeling the need to redeem yourself for the regular season, giving yourself a fantasy “fix” because you’re already going through withdrawal, or just simply adding a little fantasy “spice” to the NFL playoffs, this contest is perfect for the average fantasy footballer or NFL fan in general.
