It is about that time.
Draft date needs to be set and looking at tradition it is normally later in August on a Sunday evening.
We need an owner to replace Aqua.

We need Bumbo to roll the damn dice.

I like the idea of inviting an owner who knew or was friends with Aqua. Anyone on the board fit the bill.

Rocknrobn would fit that bill as he has even drafted for Aqua. He was as close as you can get over the internet with Aqua so maybe he is our sort of guy. Plus, I really like the guy myself.

Agree. And Skip probably knows a lot of the huddlers best and who is right for this league so I'm definitely cool with whoever he suggests.
Rocknrobn would be a great choice

Rocknrobn would love to but just can't do it. I have not really put my thinking cap on for this just yet as I would like to see us start showing up a little. I did ask one other guy who was interested but in the end he also did not care to take on another legaue at this time.
I am around, willing to give Skip free reign as i rarely visit the regular boards anymore. Not looking forward to replacing Aqua, been avoiding thinking about it to tell the truth. Getting old sucks.....

I said this same thing to CEO in an email. My heart just isn't into replacing him.

I would be open to playing the year with the spot open. Having the system draft best player available and donating the any winnings by Aqua's team to a Pennsylvania related Cancer charity or his family.
Just a thought...

I'm on board with not replacing Aqua this year. I like CEO's idea, or something to that effect.
If the majority of the league really wants to hold off on replacing Aqua, I can understand, but just a word of warning, I have played in leagues in the past with situations with an odd number of players and an "extra" team not managed by anyone and it really causes a lot of problems throughout the year with lineup decisions, waivers, last minute injury subs, etc. But I understand that this is an extreme circumstance and I'm sure we could work out some sort of reasonable set of rules if we really wanted to go that route.
That said, I gotta believe there are some long time huddlers out there that would be worthy of and would want to take over Aqua's team. I mean, even if we did not replace Aqua, and found a fair way to do the draft for his team, we'd still have to find someone to manage the team during the season right? So maybe we find someone that would like to take over his team but have them keep Aqua's team name for this year and just run the team in his honor in 2008 and then take over completely next season or something along those lines. Unfortunately I really don't surf the huddle main boards anymore so I don't know who the good choices would be.
Or another crazy thought I had, any chance one of Aqua's kids would want to run his team and keep it going? I don't know how old they are, or if they have any interest in football or if it would be too soon or awkward or a million other reasons it might not be appropriate, but I just thought I'd throw it out there because any way we slice it, someone has to manage the team this year and it should hopefully be someone that knew Aqua well. I'd gladly pony up the entry fee this year to keep it in the family if they aren't experienced in FF and need to get a year under their belt or if money were an issue or anything like that.

Hey NJ,
Good points all around.....i asked the question of Skippy if he though one of Aqua's kids could take over the team. He did not seem to think it possible.

That is a great idea and just as CEO said he also mentioned it. It just really doesn't seem like a realistic thing though. The son that I met, Cris, had no interest in football at all. And the daughter, Vanessa, is a great young girl but she for sure is not interested. As many times as I was there and even at the funeral I did not meet the other son.
I think NJ is correct in that because of balance we should probably replace Aqua. I will give it some more thought and see who I can come up with. So far I talked to three people. Rocknrobn, MikesVikes, and Puddy. All three were interested and two of them said yes but after thinking it over did not want to take on another team. I had reasons that I went to those three first but I still think that I can sort some things out and come up with a great replacement.
Do we dare just put it out there, in the terms we're talking about, and let them tell us who is interested? Let them know there is a serious screening process. Maybe we'd put a password on the board while we talk about it.

I'd like to avoid that if possible. I have asked Caveman Nick and he is going to take a day or so to think about it. I have very strong reasons for asking the few that I have asked and there are a few more that I would consider before we go to an all out post asking for interested people. There are a few places that I would look first. JMHO
I'm here. I'm with bOb and others on this one, I'm not looking forward to replacing Aqua and have avoided thinking about it - this will be a tough year. I'll be on board with whomever you all select. As far as a draft date, I like staying with our tradition of a Sunday evening near the start of the season - late August.
Hey CEO - I just returned from a week in Canada. We have friends that own a cottage on Curve Lake near Buckhorn, Ontario. Had a blast on the lake, great fishing and boating!! The kids loved tubing on the lake and driving the waverunner too. I played a little golf too at Six Foot Bay Resort in Buckhorn. We spent a day in Toronto on the way home and spent July 4th night in Niagra Falls, on the Canada side. Great trip.

G,
You gotta look me up next time you make it to Canada. I am only a couple hours from Toronto and am there on business plenty. GIve me a shout and I'll buy...errr...expense a bunch of drinks.
Caveman Nick has accepted my invite. I am really happy that he took this invite as I had a very short list of six guys that I would have been happy and Nick is right at the very top with a few others.
He will be around at some point but lets all give him some good rage advice and make sure he knows to draft two kickers and preferably take them early.

I  kickers. Can I keep 3?
