Full Version: 2008 Rule Change #3 - incomplete or non-competative lineups

Last year, we had a couple instances of a faulty lineup due to incomplete starting lineup or starting a backup QB where a starting QB on that roster was active that week.

There is nothing in the rules to address this (except stating that starting bye-week players is allowed), so here is a first proposal:

8.3 reads now as:

8.3 A starting lineup that does not consist of the above (too many in any position) will be considered illegal and will result in a forfeit. Starting a bye-week player will be considered legal, however you will get zero points from him, except for defenses – starting no defense or a bye week defense will result in an assumption of 50 points allowed, resulting in –8 points.

Proposed reading is:

8.3 A starting lineup that does not consist of the above (too many in any position) will be considered illegal and will result in a forfeit. You must have a starter for every position above. The software will be configured to disallow incomplete lineups if possible. Starting a bye-week player will be considered legal only if you have no other options, however you will get zero points from him except for defenses – starting no defense or a bye week defense will result in an assumption of 50 points allowed, resulting in –8 points.

Add:

8.5 You must submit a lineup you believe is most competitive. If until Wednesday after that weekend a team owner feels that you did not submit a competitive lineup (for reasons such as an incomplete lineup, starting a backup or injured player where a starter was available, etc.) he may file an objection, then the commish will bring it up to the league. And if the league decides that the starting lineup was less than competitive, the commish will retroactively adjust the part of the lineup to be what would have been competitive.

hmmm a couple of events that are worthy of consideration/discussion:

- lineup submission once opponant's lineup is complete:
- if you have the week won, should you have play players on say a sunday night or monday?

- not crazy about the 50 PA for a defense.... say you are carrying 1 defense... i don't believe one should be forced to sacrifice a good player to fill a bye... i think a zero for team is is sufficient.

is this about tanking at the end of the season?
If Bier only has 1 D and it's on Bye then it's a forfeit? .....i think for strategy fun you should have to have 2 Ds....decision what player you drop brack in the pool w00t.gif
Hat Trick
I'd vote yes for proposed 8.3 and vote no for 8.5.

Yes on 8.3. If I understand it correctly, if you set the software to disallow an illegal lineup, 8.5 won't be necessary.

Looks like 8.5 is a no-go so I will drop that.

Will bring 8.3 for a vote, while noting that you won't be allowed to drop a player in a late game to "no starter" if full lineups is passed.
