Last year, we had a couple instances of a faulty lineup due to incomplete starting lineup or starting a backup QB where a starting QB on that roster was active that week.
There is nothing in the rules to address this (except stating that starting bye-week players is allowed), so here is a first proposal:
8.3 reads now as:
8.3 A starting lineup that does not consist of the above (too many in any position) will be considered illegal and will result in a forfeit. Starting a bye-week player will be considered legal, however you will get zero points from him, except for defenses – starting no defense or a bye week defense will result in an assumption of 50 points allowed, resulting in –8 points.
Proposed reading is:
8.3 A starting lineup that does not consist of the above (too many in any position) will be considered illegal and will result in a forfeit. You must have a starter for every position above. The software will be configured to disallow incomplete lineups if possible. Starting a bye-week player will be considered legal only if you have no other options, however you will get zero points from him except for defenses – starting no defense or a bye week defense will result in an assumption of 50 points allowed, resulting in –8 points.
Add:
8.5 You must submit a lineup you believe is most competitive. If until Wednesday after that weekend a team owner feels that you did not submit a competitive lineup (for reasons such as an incomplete lineup, starting a backup or injured player where a starter was available, etc.) he may file an objection, then the commish will bring it up to the league. And if the league decides that the starting lineup was less than competitive, the commish will retroactively adjust the part of the lineup to be what would have been competitive.
