Here are the ideas:
1) Spreads will be posted in this forum Tuesday mornings from covers.com, which will serve as the "official" provider of lines, as it's a consensus site and not a book.
2) We go by the Tuesday spreads, no line changes from what is originally posted for the week. (i.e., if it's off the board on Tuesday, it's off the board all week).
3) If you want to put in your 5 picks for the week in time for a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday game, go for it. The pick set has to be in before kickoff of any games you choose for the week.
4) Pick 5 sides of the spread.
*** Do we want to put restrictions on the 5 games? Like must choose 1 home/1 away/1 favorite/1 underdog, for example?
5) Points accumulated or subtracted based on the final outcome of the game
EX: Michigan -10 Purdue, Final score: Michigan 31, Purdue 10.
Person who picks Michigan +11, Person who picks Purdue -11
6) Point totals and standings are updated weekly with contest running through the 15 weeks of the regular college season (through Dec. 6th, I think).
7) During the bowl season, all games will be picked by contestants.
8) If a contestant fails to submit a pickset for the week, 30 points will be subtracted from the total.
Anything else? Payouts? 70/20/10 seems reasonable....

quick 2c here - I think picking 5 games is cool - but I say any 5 games, no restriction on dogs/favs/home/away.
I like ranking them 1-5 and scoring accordingly on wins.
I don't have any real interest in figuring in the margin- as we all know a W is a W I don't care if they cover by .5 or 35.5
simpler the better IMO

So, like a confidence sort of thing, where you have a 5pt, 4pt, 3pt, 2pt, and 1pt game? 15 possible points per week?

In betting leagues I've done in the past, or games like The Weekly Blitz, the thing I don't necessarily like is the "1pt per win" thing. It measures someone's skill, but isn't necessarily as fun for a whole group because once week 10 rolls around, there will very likely be teams who are only picking ~40% of the games correctly, while others are picking ~60%. I'd like to make it interesting and worthwhile the whole season.
The thing with the margin is that it makes things a crap shoot in terms of weekly point totals, so in theory, there is a likelihood that all teams will never really be out of it. Having some kind of a point total more "interesting" than W/L is the idea, so a confidence thing could work too, I would just prefer the point swings.
I prefer the confidence ranking rather than "point swings." Point swings could allow someone who has picked significantly poorer than others to place or win this competition with a few lucky selections.
I like the idea of home/away/udog/favorite restrictions.

I would vote "No" on the point swings. I also would prefer to NOT have to choose underdogs/favorites/home/away ... I'm with Wildcat .... simpler the better.

Same here! I would rather rate them 5,4,3,2 and 1. We also should be able to pick any we want...Whether it be 5 dogs, 5 faves, etc...
I have a couple questions.
1. Will you post lines Tuesday? If so, they cannot be changed correct?
2. Can games be taken off the board? My advice would be NO. Then we would get too much into which games should be taken off and which not.
3. I think we should have the bowl games split into 3 "sessions" too. Question....Will those weeks count the same? I think they should! Someone who has built a lead over the 14 weeks of college football should not be beaten by teams who "risk all their chips" during December.
4. If we tie (7 point underdog loses by a TD), do we just receive zero points?
Thats all for now, but I think all should be addressed.

Correct on both of these. Tuesday lines are final, regardless of game status an line changes.

I think we can discuss this a little bit. My early thought is to make them count the same as the regular season.

Push = loss, if we're doing points.

So then a perfect Saturday would be all 5 games, would be 15 points? And if you went 0-5 you would get zero? I think I got it

also....
we should have to email you the picks......because if someone got a decent lead into 1st place, all he would have to do is copy the 2nd places choices and garuntee no ground could be gained.
not sure if email is the right choice, but somehow post them blind without seeing others' choices

I promise I won't do that. I know how to win with style and class.

I see that as a minimal probability, though it is possible I'm sure.
Selfishly, I don't want to have to re-post everything people email me, nor do I want to have to worry about conflicts of interest (me getting picks, me submitting picks).
Let's just assume it will work out this way. If we need to switch over at a later date, such as once someone has built a sufficient lead that this sort of thing is possible, maybe we can do it then.
The one thing I'd say is that if I was in second place, I wouldn't submit a pick set until the last possible moment. That way, either he's waiting for me and screwed because he doesn't submit any picks, or he submits his own set earlier and I know what he's going with.
We might also want to institute a -5 point rule for no pick submission.

Well said. As long as everyone puts theirs in as late as possible, we will be fine.
i just hope everyone realizes they are already playing for 2nd place

For clarafication ....
$50.00 entry fee with 70/20/10 payout
Starting this week and using Tuesday point spread as determined by covers.com
Using confidence ranking 1, 2, 3, 4, 5
"Push" is considered a loss = 0 points
Posting picks in College Pick Em' Forum prior to kickoff of first scheduled game of players choice, first game of that week
Must be D1 games only

Once a Huddler submits his picks, that's it right? No changing of the minds?

I agree with this with one exception--I think a huddler should be allowed to co-op Big Mike's picks with impunity.

Well, my thought is that as long as your first kickoff hasn't taken place, it's fine.

Though indicate it somehow that there was a change in your original pick set.

can i get a final rules clarification and how the confidence points are awarded.
1-5
5 being your most confident and gaining you five points ?

ok, just want to make sure it official. So once your earliest game has kicked off of your 5, all 5 of your games are frozen.
Did we ever decide how we're doing the end of the season? Are we including bowl games? broken up? just to the end of the regular season?

I thought we did.....but I can't see anything that states that.

I would like to see it split into pre-Jan 1st and post-Jan 1st. That's 22 games and 12 games.
I'd even advocate that the first grouping be worth 2x the regular season (10-8-6-4-2) and the final 12 games be worth triple (15-12-9-6-3). Just to make things real interesting.
Yeah, i saw discussion, but couldn't find a decision anywhere. That idea works for me though...
