There has been some discussion in the rules thread regarding the need for playoffs. The way the MVP Challenge was run was that the top 500 teams had a playoff from weeks 13 through week 16. All 500 teams scores reverted to zero after week 12 and previously used players remained locked. Some argue that due to the limited amount of teams in this contest (as of now we have 35) that playoffs aren't advisable and we just let everyone play the entire season. There are good points on both sides of the discussion.
I didn't make this a poll because our forum is open and I don't want randoms voting. Please post a simple yes for playoffs or no for no playoffs in this thread. If the yes votes win we will then start a thread to determine type of playoffs to run. There's a good chance that not all teams will vote in this thread. However, for the sake of time we will go with whatever the majority is by the deadline of 6:00 PM EDT on Monday. I do think we need a minimum number of votes however. Let's go with 20 as the minimum.
So what say ye?

Yes. Adds a layer of strategy.

I'm reluctant to change the game strategy, but I'll vote no playoffs.
I'm also wondering if the contest could be over at some point sooner rather than later if the scoring doesn't reset for four weeks.
I vote no, but if we do have playoffs, I would suggest top 10 make it, and top five get paid.

no playoffs
I like the idea of having a playoff system in place due to strategic reasons plus if someone is towards the bottom of the "top 10" (as previously posted) they have a chance at battling back or starting anew, however it's voted on. But, I just don't think it's fair that if you do well, or even great during the regular season, they could be ousted in the first week (but isn't that what makes it interesting?). Okay, enough drunk rambling, no for playoffs, may the best men win. Good luck to all.
I prefer playoffs. I like the challenge of selecting mediocre players with good matchups and saving my guns for the playoffs. If you don't make the playoffs, there are a lot of what ifs. Perhaps shorten playoffs to 3 weeks instead of 4.

I vote yes to playoffs... involves more strategy in deciding when to use stud players
This is the "MVP Memorial" meaning we should honor the same rules as before.
YES Playoffs.
7 no's
5 yes's so far.
I was hoping for a more lopsided vote one way or the other. Regardless of what wins, I'm confident everyone will have fun. We can always revisit this next year as well.
I think a lot of it will depend on this year's outcome. If someone runs away with it this year, more might be leaning towards playoff next year. If it's all bunched up this year, things will be more exciting and more people might want to continue to keep it open all season long, rather than a playoff that could potentially eliminate contenders still within striking distance.

You know... the thing is, even though I voted "no" I would be totlally fine with playoffs too. I was kind of hoping for some compelling arguments one way or another.

No. The strategy is there whether you have playoffs or not. Include all 17 weeks too!

With the amount of people we have playing, I would vote for No Playoffs....
Now it's more like 9-5 in favor of no playoffs. The thing is, though, I think most of us who voted no would go either way. Probably the same for those who voted yes, I would guess. I move that we go with no playoffs this year, based on the vote, but leave it open to a vote again next year, if there are those who still prefer the playoff format after this season plays out. Like I said earlier, the majority may very well swing the other way if someone runs away with this thing ten weeks into the season.
Either way, I'm looking forward to this... Not quite the same as having the Huddle sponsor something with thousands of contestants, but at least we salvaged the contest somewhat. Plus, given that we're now paying to play, I think we can agree that everyone will probably take this pretty seriously and I would be very surprised if we have many/any dropouts (which is one advantage over last year's format).
Thanks for making this happen, guys.

Couldn't agree more .....sorry to keep jocking your responses but I'm diggin' the avatar Mr. Bolton.
Well, we didn't quite get 20 votes but for the sake of time, we'll just not use the playoff format this first year. We can revisit it next year.
I'm also going to keep it to 16 weeks this year (although I don't see a problem with 17, since who cares if the stars are benched) as that's what we've thrown around and the season starts on Thursday

I like 17 weeks...just saying.
I don't see having 17 weeks over 16 as more value. I see it as less.

For the record, Im a late joiner and didnt vote but I wouldnt have cared either way on either issue, its $20 and fun so whatever you decided here Puddy Im cool with. Just happy football is back I guess playoffs would be fun and adds a little more strategy, so if you forced me to, thats what I would vote for next year.
