I just noticed that you picked up Brady and put him on your IR. Just wanted to give you a heads up that he is not eligible to be kept by anyone next year. This is year three of his contract and by rule, no matter who owns him, he goes back into the pool.

I looked at the rules and could not see why I am unable to keep him. He was not traded, he was released.

Far as I remember, released players have been held to this as well. If I draft a guy in the 8th round, end up releasing him in the same year, whoever picks up this player to keep, has to keep them as a 8th rounder, not a undrafted 16th rounder. Way I understand it, had Rollers elected not to keep Brady as a keeper per the draft, then Brady would be fair game, 1st yr elgible.

From the League Bylaws:
3.3 For each player you keep, you will forfeit your draft pick for the round in which that player was originally drafted. Undrafted free agents may be kept by forfeiting the last available draft pick that is not already being forfeited.

So, Tom Brady was technically a 1st round pick this year in his third year of eligibility on RC's roster. He is not an undrafted free agent!

I still don't see something pertaining to the ability to keep him.

In this rule discussion thread - Rules Change Thread we all made it pretty clear that players dropped and then picked up as free agents retained their original draft status. Although, it is not spelled out in the rules specifically, the spirit of the law has always been that the original draft status stayed with the player. This would mean that Brady or any other 3rd year keeper would not be available whether traded or dropped. I even advised a couple of other players earlier that Brady was not eligible when they were thinking about picking him up. I certainly would not have dropped him if I thought someone would think that they could keep him next year. I have an unused IR spot that he could have resided in.

You're more than welcome to keep him on your roster for this season if you want.
