Full Version: Do we need a new rule?

In light of Dr. Love's lack of team management recently, is there a way to elect a committee (or simply the commish) that would make lineup changes, transactions, etc. if need be. He started 2 inactives this week and 3 bye week players last week. Hopefully everything is okay and it's just life is too busy (I do see he visited the boards on Saturday).

What has been your experience in this situation in other leagues, if any?
Pope Flick
This is a valid question for sure and deserves some discussion.

The first thing I'd like to say is that I am playing in 5 active leagues (I don't count 32 Homers because that's so much auto pilot) but in 4 of the 5 leagues I've seen this happen this year several times whereas before it was a rare occurance. For whatever reason Bye Weeks seem unnecessarily cruel this year in their timing. Coupled with that the fact we do not redraft and we're stuck with the cards dealt. Look at me this week: I have 6 players (5 starters) on Bye.

A quick perusal over Love's lineup really shows only one mistake: S Jax going inactive late in the week. Everywhere else, his hands are tied. And because this is dynasty it isn't fair to expect him to want to cut someone that might be lost forever by trying to scratch 5 points out of Joey Galloway (or some such worthless long term old guy).

I say all this as a big proponent of "it's not about the loss he gets, but the win he gives." His losing to egret keeps me even with him which is not where I want to be. Despite back to back issues here, I don't see this as egregious: it's clear the doc is busy and he clearly went with the best lineup as of about Thrusday night he could go with.

However, this does not invalidate puddy's response: if this is a dynasty and we're here year to year it's reasonable to expect taht at some point one of us will "fall off the grid" for personal reasons. I think this conversation should steer perhaps first towards a "Norris Buddy System" - and my other suggestion is pretty obvious: except for when they're matched up the other two homers should run the team of the "off the grid guy."

Thoughts?

Well, I think there just maybe needs to be a system of escalation before we start going into replacement mode...

email... wait for response
phone call... wait for response
call out on the boards looking for info... wait for response
then possibly go into replacement mode if necessary

The timing of all of that should probably be discussed, but in general I think that most of us are committed to the league, but sometimes real life gets in the way. Just start by asking if all is well.

I thought it was just the typical Wayne Fontes late season surge. unsure.gif

I missed a week in my local this year. I'm also the commish. That didn't feel so great. Life is busy, and there are some things that get moved to the back burner. I hope all is well with the good doctor.

All is okay here, and I appreciate the concern. I'm just swamped with projects at work and remodeling at home. I've definitely been less involved with my FF teams this year, and I apologize for that. I screwed up two weeks ago by not submitting my lineup. As Pope alluded to, this past week was more by design; I can't remember when I set my lineup, but all indications were that SJax would probably go and I knew that my other options were going to be limited to a couple carries (Norwood/Buckhalter).

Even prior to these past couple of weeks, I've been concerned about my own level of involvement. I haven't been as active in free agency as I usually would be, and the slip a couple of weeks ago was embarrassing. I had already told myself (even before this thread) that if I couldn't be more involved in the league next year that I would at least give you guys the option of finding a new owner. I don't think it will come to that, but sometime life intervenes. In general, I don't think any formal rule is necessary. I trust that any of us would step down if and when FF isn't enough of a priority in our lives to put forth the requisite effort. If something odd happens, deal with it on a case-by-case basis like this.

Besides, when I'm actively managing I do things like trading first round picks for Deion Branch and Vince Young. Don't you think my team would be better if I just ignored it? sick.gif

This is exactly why we need to keep Doc in the league... wink.gif

Seriously, though, I hope you choose to stay around.

Glad to hear things are okay. Now get your priorities straight. helmet.gif

Hope life is well Doc!

I like the buddy system idea. It would even help when draft time comes possibly!

2.5 Owner Expulsion: An owner may be expelled from the league, but it is rarely done. If such a situation arises all steps to make it as amicable and respectful as possible are to be taken. Any "expulsion" must be taken on a case-by-case basis.

Just in case you didn't know we had language on this. And I don't think this was suggested. smile.gif

I'd be willing to accept a few of your first round draft picks for Jamal Lewis.

Could we give a 25-point bonus for each woman assaulted during the season? That would take LJ from waste of a roster spot to MVP for me.
