Big Country
Well, so far 5 of the 6 playoff spots have been clinched.

Big Country has locked up the So Cal division and makes the playoffs, even with the possibility of making it in with a sub .500 record if he loses this week.

From the NorCal Division, slambodians and Hangtown Heroes have locked up playoff spots and play this week, with the winner securing the division.

From the Nocal division, SFDruglords and BearswithFurniture have secured playoff spots and are also matched up this week with the winner clinching the division title.

The final wildcard spot will be between Golden Gophers, Mad Macedonians and Bubba's Ballers. GG and MM play this week and a win by GG locks them the wild card spot. A loss by GG and a win by Bubba's Ballas will put the 3 of them into a 3-way tie and we will come to tiebreakers.

Congrats to those advancing!

What are the tie-breakers, exactly? According to our league MFL page, it's divisional win %, then total points, then "conference" winning %. We don't really have conferences any more, not that it would get to that point (since nobody should tie for points). My question is this... Does divisional winning % matter when comparing teams that weren't in the same division? It shouldn't. IMO, total points should factor in long before division record when you're comparing teams from different divisions. smash.gif In fact, I would say that HTH record should be a higher tie-breaker as well.

The rules on the site are for a divisional format and don't really apply to our new setup. HTH and total points should be the deciding factor.
ps- Since neither one helps me i think it should go to the team with the most titles since the league started smash.gif

Yes, the tiebreak rules on the site were not updated after we changed the league format from the two conference/4 division format and the open playoffs as opposed to the conference playoffs we had.

I agree that h2h and total points should trump division record as division record should not apply for determining wildcard playoff spots across divisions.

I will update the site accordingly to go with h2h then total points for the tiebreak for playoff ranking (unless their is an objection, then we will go to a league vote).

For what it's worth, I'm not bringing this up just because my division record sucks. biggrin.gif I just noticed that the tie-breakers on MFL (in several of my leagues... not just this one) are somewhat unclear, especially since they don't really distinguish between division tie-breakers and wild cards (or even playoff seeding).

This year, though, it seems like I'm top 2-3 in total points in most of my leagues, but yet out of the playoffs, or borderline making it. I swear I'm in the toughest division in practically every league. I keep telling myself that FF evens it out over the years, but after missing the playoffs by one game or due to tie-breakers in literally every league I was in last year, I'm a little bit jaded.

I really thought I had a strong team this year in this league... Didn't even think tie-breakers would be an issue. But, my team has fallen off the past few weeks, and I couldn't win a divisional game to save my life. bag.gif If I don't make it, I can't really blame anyone but myself (and maybe Brett Favre)... Just wanted to make sure I understood the tie-breaker situation for this year and future years.

Don't forget this option wink.gif

MFL site updated with playoff brackets.

GG advances as the final wildcard team as both he and Macedonians were 2-1 in h2h with Darin being 0-2, eliminating him from the picture.

Then, as GG and macedonians split h2h 1-1, gopher gets in by ouscoring macedonians by 25 points over the course of the season.

Crevice bowl also set up.

Just for the record, I disagree with H2H being the 2nd tie-breaker with 3 or more teams tied in a wildcard race. Darin gets shortchanged here as he only played both the other teams once, whereas they played each other twice...IMO H2H should only be used if there are only 2 teams tied, and with a 3-way tie then use highest points scored...also noted that Darin would have been eliminated in that regard as well, but still, way fairer than the H2H scenario.

I agree. Fortunately (or unfortunately, in Darin's case), the outcome is the same either way.

I put my idea up there...didn't you see it? shades.gif

Good luck, BC. It should be a close one... looks like you've got some good matchups this week. As for me, I'll probably decide at about 9:59 whether or not I want to go with Portis or not. unsure.gif

Congrats, BC. The Golden Gophers folded like a cheap tent when it counted most. I had a feeling that was what would happen, although I have to admit I was hoping it would be next week, not this one. Decided to roll with Ginn instead of Portis, and it didn't matter. That, plus the fact that Favre has been horrible the past few weeks, left me little room for error. I probably could have overcome those two things had my "stud-filled" WR corp come through, but none of them really had a big week. Boldin, Royal, Colston... all mediocre games at best. The only guy who truly was a stud for me all season long was Gonzalez... that guy is amazing, and seems to just get better with age.

Then, just to be extra cruel, the fantasy gods decided to play with my mind a little bit last night, and make things semi-interesting. Down by 30, with the Ravens defense left to play... They come out blazing and get me 19 in the first half. Of course, 10 of those were for the zero points against, so I'm more than a little skeptical. At that point, I'm thinking another defensive/return TD, and keep the shutout in play, and we have ourselves a game. But, it was not meant to be... Oh well, at least it made the Ravens/Skins game a little bit interesting, at least for three quarters.

Good luck, and talk to you guys next year.

May someone from the NorCal division win this thing, and further confirm that we are the strongest division. smash.gif
