I know a lot of my league mates don't like the scoring system for defenses, but it is something I do like about this league. Far too many leagues use an overly simplistic pont scoring system which makes kickers and defenses barely even a part of any draft strategy... just take 'em last, right? Boring, at least to me.

Having said that, I would like to see it tweaked some.

Total Net Yards Allowed 0-150 10
Total Net Yards Allowed 151-250 5
Total Net Yards Allowed 251-350 0
Total Net Yards Allowed 351-400 -5
Total Net Yards Allowed 401-500 -10
Total Net Yards Allowed 501-999 -15

I'd like to make the first bracket from 0-200 10.
Then the second made at 201-300 5,
301-400 0,
401-450 -5
451-500 -10,
501 or more -15.
Increase the yardage at most tiers by 50. That would take some of the sting (and negative points) out of the scoring system.

How about 3 points for a safety instead of 2? It's 2 points for the NFL team, plus it's a turnover.

Right now 3 sacks= 1 point. How about each sack being 0.5 point? Or even 1 point?

I am strongly against going to the brainless point scoring systems most leagues employ for defenses. In those leagues, you draft your D and kicker in the last rounds. It's a silly way to score defenses, but it is what many owners are used to. This isn't a bad scoring system at all, it's a good one, unless one ignores it when drafting a team. So, I suggest some tweaking, but not an overhaul. I think this would dampen the pain of ignoring defenses when drafting, but still keep defenses an important part of any AGS draft strategy, which is exactly why I like it so much. Ignore the D in this draft, and it will cost you.

Thoughts, opinions?

I like the suggestions and have always hated that it takes 3 sacks to get 1 lousy point.

Well thought out Rovers. I like all of the suggestions. Especially moving the yardage up by 50. I can't remember when a defense held the opponents to under 150 yards. I, too, have always hated the 3 sacks for 1 point rule as well.

I'm in agreement and like the suggestions as well. I've always thought our DEF scoring was a bit too stingy. This would loosen it up a bit and I'm all for it!!

Adding to that, I'm not sure how we score shutouts but a shutout guarantees a win for that given team and therefore I think in fantasy a shutout should be rewarded at least 15 points (maybe even 20). It's such a rare feat, why not? I mean offensive skill players score 30s and 40s all the time - why not a shutout DEF?

I like the shutout idea as well. I remember a couple of years ago that my defense had a shut out, but only scored 1 or 2 points. I hated that.

The scoring could probably use a little tweaking, but not too much. In our scoring system, your defense won't win you games by scoring a lot. But if you don't have a good defense, it could prevent you from winning. I like it like that.
