Full Version: LLD : rules you wish to discuss in February 2010

I'm not suggesting we should, just that we might as we be organized about it.

If there is a rule that you want to discuss, put it in this thread. If after this last final, final round of discussions comes to a close, you think of a something, please hold your thoughts until next season.

EDIT: Let's not discuss a rule change that you have in mind, just put them all in one place so the Commish can see if there's enough interest to open an individual discussion in it's own thread. Also, if someone else says they want to discuss something that you want to discuss, please still mention it. If only one person wants to discuss it, well, the commish may not feel it's necessary to discuss.

Rules one or more owners wish to discuss in the February 2010 Rule Review session:

1. Contract Cap
2. LLD$
3. Taxi Squad
4. Division re-alignment
5. Alter allocation of LLD Pounds to winners and losers
6. DTS and IR (post #43)
7. Moving trade date to a later week.
8. Vetoing trades rule adjustment

RULES CHANGED in 2010
(rules that changed from 2009, whether because of league approved changes or exceptions that expired after the first season)
1. Can non-rookies be placed on DTS? -- Exception expires.

Good post. And I agree, after this, we slam the rule book closed until the official rules review in 2010.

My points of discussions are:

1. Salary Cap -- do we raise it to compensate for the initial start-up? 60-75 cap range should be sufficient for a permanent fix
2. LLD$ -- Taking FA into consideration, have we alloted ourselves enough bidding money to cover both FA and contract extensions?
3. Taxi Squad -- 5 spots for the initial year is perfect. However, another round of rookies next year and 2011 will severely undermine the entire rookie draft process IMO. Do we raise the taxi squad to 10 for 2010 or suck it up and leave it at 5.
4. Division re-alignment: We had agreed to discuss this after the draft. Is Big John going to rank our teams?

no worries.

One other topic that you keep bringing up is IDP. I gotta tell you and league in advance that I just don't see that I'll ever have the time and enough interest to research it. If the league wants to go IDP, we might as well discuss that now so y'all can find a replacement owner -- that'll be easy since I have an awesome roster.
Robash
again, discuss all you want...but i will argue, lobby, fillibuster...whatever you want to call it against any rule change for this season. we allready had that chance, and the rules were finalized.

I started out wanting IDP for this league but have since changed my stance. I'm in enough IDP leagues and this is a nice set-up. Going IDP, IMO, would be a major headache and would risk losing founding owners such as Opie which I would NOT be comfortable with at all.

we wont know the strengths of teams until after the rookie draft...so this topic isnt really all that pressing. that being said, im fine with Big John ranking teams if he wants to. other than that dont know of a really good way to do it. the only thing i can think of would be to just leave them like they are and realign next off season.

also i vote for a complete realignment every year based off of total points, 1-4 5-8 9-12 13-16 etc...

I'm glad you brought this one up. I will go along with about anything the majority rules in all cases except IDP. I just wont have the time to start researching defenses to be competitve in an IDP league. So going IDP would be just about the only thing that would get me to leave this league.

i'm against division realignment. I like the idea of having to get past the guy who is better than you in your own division. Right now, I think my division has some very good teams that will keep me from making the playoffs, but that's part of the game. The Cardinals were in a bad division - so what. I think realigning is too soft. A dynasty is built by being able to dominate your division. Players are drafted to try and beat the teams in your division. If we realign each year, then it makes it more difficult to be a dynasty.

I say no rankings either. For what? So we can say that we overcame our doubters or feel badly about our draft? Or hope to get in a easier division?

The best way to choose the divisions is the same way we chose the draft order. Let's roll the dice. Or we could do it by geographical location. I'm all for that! Or maybe we can get the sorting hat to choose for us. You don't choose the division, it chooses you. http://slytherins.com/

well yearly division realignment was always part of the plan, the only thing that wasnt decided about it was how...which we decided to wait until after the drafts anyways.

I kinda like the dice option. Geographical is always fun but do we have 4 teams to fill West/East/North and South?

Regarding annual allocation of LLD Pounds, if by some chance we didn't realign divisions in this league (in order to create division rivalries), I would suggest that perhaps we tier the allocation of funds each year to give the crappier teams more LLD Pounds. It can be subtle... Say just 1 Pound per team difference, where the team with the most total points in the regular season gets $50 LLD, the team with the second most total points gets $51 LLD, etc. all the way to the team with the fewest total points scored getting $65 LLD.

Just a thought to promote parity in the league... Something we can revisit next Feb.

Very good point and something that I totally forgot about. A compensation scale to those teams that finished with worse records is very common and something I think should be discussed.

Which was a carryover from another league's set of rules, but thinking about it in hindsight, it doesn't make a ton of sense to do this if our goal is to try to create a somewhat balanced league. Although the SB winner does not get the $3 LLD if I remember correctly, just the division winners of the other three divisions (and this was put into place with the idea that we wouldn't be doing complete realignment each year but rather the ladder system where division winners move up a division and division bottom feeders move down a division).

I think the bonus is the one rule we should amend now. Winners get real money, that's the reward for doing well. And we should consider implementing your idea for giving more LLD cash to those with less points.

Between extra cash and NFL-style rookie drafts, we should keep this league pretty darn competitive year-after-year.

I agree (well, not about you getting $50 LLD, but I concur with your concurring with Opie...)

think.gif

That made my brain hurt.

This doesn't really affect anything until after the season is over. Allocation of LLD Pounds happens on May 1 annually. We can discuss in February in order to affect May's allocation for 2010.

ETA - I guess maybe it is kinda crappy to change the rule after the results of the 2009 fantasy season. If I won my division, I'll feel like I got hosed out of a bonus that the rules said I should have. Maybe we should remove the bonus for now and simply discuss giving more LLD Pounds to the poorer teams in Feb of 2010.

I know what Robash is going to post in response to this - we had three weeks to review the rulebook. Case closed. Rules are done. I typically agree with that, mainly because we could theoretically go all summer picking apart the rulebook with suggested changes and countless threads on rule discussion. Even though you say "this one issue" resolved, is this really the end?

Maybe if everyone pinky swears, crosses their heart, etc. that this will be the one and ONLY rule change for the rest of the 2009 season? shrug.gif

No way should we give extra, valuable, cash to horrible owners that can't rebuild thier teams. you want to get rid of the bonus to division winners fine...which I vote no (big shocker i know), but dont reward the inept when they already get rewarded with a "weak" schedule which im even more against.

I was only suggesting the tiering of LLD pounds if we didn't realign divisions. Again, all part of our lovely February 2010 agenda from hell.

ETA: Robash, I had no idea how hardcore you were. Don't you think it makes sense to throw the really chitty teams a bone? I mean to keep them interested long-term?

I gotta agree with Robash here on this one. We're not offering bailouts and stimulus packages to franchises now, are we? To the victor, go the spoils. The winners get all the perks. That's why it's hard to knock off the champ!

When we get our $50 LLD's and our division winnings.

If we win our division, we shouldn't have to wait until after the Restricted Free Agent period to get our division winnings.
Why do we have to wait for the $50 LLD after the RFA period? I understand we shouldn't get it until everyone has paid for the new season, but other than that, I don't want to be low on funds for RFA. The Calendar treats RFA as it is still part of the 2009 season instead of the 2010 offseason. I don't like it.
LordOpie
I'd like to discuss moving the trade deadline to a later date. I'm not sure of the pros and cons, but why is week 10 chosen for most leagues?
LordOpie
QUOTE
4.2.5 Vetoing Trades
If any trade appears to be so one-sided or otherwise unfair that it threatens to jeopardize the integrity of the league, the league owners may be asked to vote whether or not to approve the transaction. A simple majority (9) is required for a trade to be accepted.

A vote will be required for any trade when the Commissioner or Roster Management Commissioner request a vote. In addition, a vote will be required if 3 requests by post in the league forum are made within 24 hours of the trade.

I'm not a fan of vetoing to begin with, but I can see value in having it and spelling it out in the rules. That said, I'd suggest a change of:

QUOTE
A simple majority (9) is required for a trade to be accepted.

to
QUOTE
A simple majority (9) is required for a trade to be vetoed.

I think it should be case of "innocent until proven guilty", meaning that it should be approved unless the majority veto it.
