3.2.2 Off-Season
During the off-season (day after the fantasy Super Bowl, until the 7/31 cut downs) there will be no roster size limitation. Rosters must be reduced to 54 players by July 31 (Midnight Eastern Time). Teams will be charged $1 AFL Dollar per day per player over the 54 limit.

Your active roster presently has 56 players. $1 X 2 players = $2.

54 active and 12 Taxi squad.

Just as it has been since July 21. I triple checked it before I went away knowing I had no access

You have 56 active roster players and 10 DTS eligible players by my count. I'll let the commish make a final determination on what kind of fine gets levied or if one gets levied at all. Obviously, we need a little more clear definition in here about what constitutes an active roster player because even the most astute fantasy football players on earth apparently have their own interpretation of these kinds of things.

What?

Which of the 12 guys on my DTS are you not counting and why?

My interpretation is that rookies count as part of the 54-player active roster, with the DTS exemption available only to those players already designated for the taxi squad.

So a rookie isn't eligible for DTS by your interpretation?

Zooty
and it isn't consistent with last season since I would have been over then too.

How does a rookie on your roster July 31st become part of a DTS when you don't designate a player to the taxi squad until September 7th?

This is why we need to get these rules tightened up a bit.

This needs to be rewritten. There is no mention of DTS anywhere in this rule.
I propose we write this rule to include the DTS players as simply rostered players until final cutdown. Something like 60 total rostered players by 7/31.

3.3.1 Limits
Each franchise will be allocated a Developmental Taxi Squad (DTS) containing up to 12 players. Players on a team's DTS in a prior year, along with any rookie additions, may be placed on the DTS. A player may remain on the DTS for a maximum of 3 years. The deadline for announcing DTS players will be in accordance with rule 3.2.3 final roster declaration. Any player on an active roster after the final roster declaration is no longer eligible to be placed on any team's DTS. For the first season, any player with less than three years NFL experience may be placed on the DTS. This exemption does not allow players to stay on the DTS past their third year of NFL duty.

Here there is nothing saying that a rookie CAN'T be placed on DTS before the 9/7 final declaration. By this rule it stands to reason that Zooty could designate a couple of rookies as DTS early. The rule only states that he HAS to do so by 9/7 in order to keep them DTS elidgeable for this season.

The way I see it we have no ACTIVE roster during the off season as we have no games being played. I think this could all be solved easily by rewriting the first cutdown to read...." All teams must reduce there rosters to 60 total players by 7/31." This does away with the gray area surrounding DTS versus Active roster. In addition I would have to say that due to the vagueness of the rule that designating rookies as DTS could and should be allowed at anytime leading up to the final roster date. If I wanted to I could make my final roster declaration today. Of course that would make no sense but it is within the rules.

GTS,
You are doing exactly what we expect of you. This is no reflection on the job you are doing and I hope you don't take it that way. You have the hardest job of anyone in this league and I feel this simple change to the rulebook will make your job easier and avoid any confusion in the future.

Kp,
I really think we need you to weigh in on this and put it to rest. IMO we as a league should agree to waive any fines against any owners on this subject until we can get the rulebook to read a little more clearly.

Zooty,
I really hate taking up for a division rival when it would serve me better to watch your AFL bucks dwindle daily. laughing.gif

+1

The rules listed are not clearly defined...more clearly defining the rules will save league members, and commishes, a lot of headache in the future.

GTS and I talked on the phone yesterday for about half an hour on this issue and came to some conclusions. I was just waiting for him to post something before I chimed in.

Essentially yes, the rules are poorly written right here. We won't be fining Zooty, and we need to come up with a better way to word this portion of the rules entirely. OR we simply remove the 7/31 roster cuts entirely, because everyone was under them anyways.

This is my favorite option.

I will have to think about how I feel on this subject. I guess if we are all under anyhow it is fine but I just see the potential for hording players. Personally I like the cutdown to 60 on 7/31. I am also fine with whatever is decided.

I really just wanted to lay out the rules again for everyone to see so that we can rewrite them to reduce confusion.

You can't horde extra guys without paying for them, and then they will ultimately have to be cut in September anyways. Is there anyone here (besides maybe Zooty) looking for extra guys right now? Seems like an unnecessary rule and deadline to me.
paulzale
I agree with eliminating the rule:

1.) To get to that level on your roster you either had to trade for picks or get the players on WW, both of which cost.
2.) I look around and there really are not any players I would want to pick up from those likely to be dropped
3.) Will make roster cuts in Sept. anyway
4.) Aug. 31st cut to 54 seems abitrary

Just my opinion, one cut to final roster size is enough for me.
