Grits and Shins
With the draft dragging along at a snail's pace we have plenty of time between picks to scoff at discuss each other's picks

1.12 - Brandon Jacobs
I drew the absolute worst pick possible (12) having kept a 2nd rounder (Randy Moss). With my first and only pick out of the first 35 picks I selected Brandon Jacobs to pair with Steve Slaton. NY likes to run the ball and Brandon is a beast when he is healthy. I'm hopeful that Brandon is more healthy than not this year. Slaton + Jacobs can be a deadly back field in all weeks but 10 ... since they are both off that week. I had slim hope I could land Chris Johnson, Roddy White or Reggie Wayne in this spot.

2.12 - Randy Moss
Randy will be a top 5 WR this year if not in the top 2. Hard not to spend a 2nd round pick to keep him.

[Insert LONG wait here until my next pick :g-yawn2.gif]

3.12 - Braylon Edwards
I am sooooo not thrilled with Mr. Dropsie and had hoped to land Roy Williams, Chad Johnson or Calvin Johnson at this spot. Since we have to start three WRs in this league I really felt the need to draft my 2nd WR here ... so I rolled the dice hoping that Braylon will have figured out how to catch the ball again. I strongly considered Desean Jackson, Coles and Brandon Marshall in this spot.

4.01 - Peyton Manning
I was prepared to take back-to-back WRs at the turn here if two of Roy Williams, Chad Johnson and Calvin Johnson were available ... yeah right, try NONE of them being available. With the WRs and RBs picked over and 23 picks until my next pick it is time to take a top tier QB. I strongly considered Philip Rivers in this spot but finally settled on Mr. Consistency Peyton Manning.

5.12 - Cedric Benson
Just wasn't thrilled with the WR talent available at this spot although I did consider Cotchery, Witten and Hester. Cincy resigned Benson and has a softer schedule this year (except for PIT and BAL twice each), especially nearing playoff time. I decided I liked the value to be had with Benson here versus another WR.

6.01 - Felix Jones
Still not thrilled with the WR talent available and like the upside of Felix Jones. Also considered that Felix is a potential keeper in the 6 hole.

7.12 - Derrick Mason
At this point all I am looking for is a serviceable WR3 ... I think that is the very definition of Derrick Mason.

8.01 - Steve Breaston
Drafted purely for his upside and potential as a keeper next year if Boldin departs the Cardinals. He could also be a serviceable WR3, WR2 if Boldin gets hurt (as he normally does).

9.12 - Steve Slaton
No brainer keeper ... what is not to like about Steve Slaton for a 9th round draft pick
Big Palooka
I'll give it a whirl,

1.11 Roddy White WR - Picking this late in the first round was a tough decision. I was lining up Reggie Wayne at this spot, but thanks to Duffy, he was snapped up at 1.10. Thanks Quacker. Roddy White is a nice consolation prize, though. He'll pair up nicely with Calvin Johnson on my starting roster each week.

2.01 Ronnie Brown RB - At 1.11 I was also considering Brandon Jacobs or Ronnie Brown. When I selected White at WR I allowed Blitz to make the decision for me and I scooped up Brown on the rebound. I liked Jacobs potential for TD production, but am concerned about him staying healthy. The man just runs too upright. Brown willl get his touches and should put up consistent #'s.

3.11 Calvin Johnson WR - Not a tough decsion to give up a third round for this keeper. Detroit had a budget buffet at QB last season and CJ still put up monster #'s.

4.02 Phillip Rivers QB - I was considering RB depth or rounding our my WR corps here, but I watched Peyton Manning fall through the third round and thought I'd have to take him should he fall to me. After being snapped up by Blitzy, I felt Rivers presented good value with a dropoff of talent beneath him. There was enough RB and WR talent available to last til I picked again.

5.11 Larry Johnson RB - There does not appear to be any love for LJ this season, but you can place me on the comeback bandwagon for LJ. He won't reach the lofty heights of a few seasons ago, but I believe he will put up consistent points from week to week.

6.02 Jerricho Cotchery WR - I honestly don't know what to think about this pick. Not a sexy pick, but again, looking for steady production. Seemed to be the best bet at this point without a ton of risk. Not particularly excited about it though.

7.11 Thomas Jones RB - Another RB nearing the end of the road. I like the value TJ presents here. Gives me additional depth and option for my weekly starting lineup. Unlike others who think Shonn Greene and Leon Washington will significantly cut into TJ's #'s, I think TJ is still the man. I'll be very happy if I called this right, as not only will I benefit from his production, but Duffy will have clogged up two roster spots with TJ's backups for no good reason. biggrin.gif

8.02 Devin Hester WR - Got a little panicky about having Cotchery as my WR3, so I picked up another WR to worry about. If Cutler doesn't flake out this season, I like the potential here.

9.11 Minnesota Def - I hate picking on the end a of a round, knowing I won't pick for virtually 2 rounds. Never know when a run is going to start. With three D's off the board I figured the time was right.

10.02 Stephen Gostkowski PK - Why am I picking a kicker now? I don't know. I was flipping coins on a number of receivers at this point and this gave me an excuse to stop. Hopefully I start a massive kicker run in rounds 10 and 11 to maximize my option when I pick again.
Big Palooka
Nobody else seems to be joining in, so I'll help things along; starting with Duck Boy (be advised the following comments are objective and unbiased):

1.10 Reggie Wayne WR - Will Reggie be able to handle the double team now that Marvin is gone? Yeah, I didn't think so either...

2.03 Drew Brees QB - Yeah, he might put up a few points to help Quacker save face, but when your best receiver is a 7th round reject, ya gotta wonder.

3.10 Chad Ocho Stinko WR - Hey Quacker, in case you didn't know, they don't award bonus points for flaky TD celebrations in this league. Too bad, you might have walked away with the title this season.

4.03 Donald Brown RB - Ok, your #2 RB is a back up on a pass first team. Good luck with that.

5.10 Kevin Walter WR - It's a good thing that Ducky has those long knuckle-dragging arms of his. He needed them to reach for Walter at this point.

6.03 DeAngelo Williams RB (Keeper) - Ok, your #1 RB is an RBBC back. You actually kept him? unsure.gif

7.10 Matt Hasselbeck QB - TJ Houshmanzadeh is a promising target for MH. Too back he won't have time to throw to him with no protection. Should be week 5 by the time his back has turned to mush.

8.03 Leon Washington RB - Scored the backup to a RB that scored 15 TDs last season. Oh yeah, he'll see lots of action... rolleyes.gif

9.10 Baltimore Defense - Led by Ray Lews who just signed an endorsement deal with Geritol. Should be OK if they can wake up Ray from his afternoon nap before the game.

10.03 Shonn Greene RB - This just keeps getting better. It's not good enough to get a RB who's gonna stand on the sideline watching TJ score another 15 TDs; Duffster has to get the guy thats gonna hold TJ's spare jock! Nice move, Duff!

11.10 ??????
Duffy
Quack! Now, I usually let derogatory comments just roll like water off a duck's back...but seeing as I'm being called out specifically, I'll make an exception.

I haven't gone into a draft with a particular plan of drafting X number of RBs or Y number of WRs by a certain round for a few years now. I just let the darn thing unravel and roll with the punches. If there is a player I like, that I feel will not be there the next time I pick...I will make that 'reach' for him. smile.gif

1.10 Having to start 3 WRs each week made this pick easy. As far as Reggie Wayne being able to handle the rigors of being a No. 1 WR, he's been doing that the last two years. I'll take my chances with Peyton Manning's favorite target.

2.03 Shouldn't have come as a surprise that I'd be looking at QB here. I've muddled around with also-rans at this position too many times in the past. I attempted to change that last year by drafting Brady in the 1st. That didn't work out so well...but no one has been more consistant over the last few years than Brees, and last years totals were compiled without Colston for much of the season. The best part is that Brees gets rid of the ball quickly and takes fewer sacks than most, and the defense is still a work in progress, so the offense will have to score bunches.

3.10 Looking at the rosters of the two that pick after me, I knew WR was going to be a priority. Chad definitely carries some risk, and I've never been a real big fan of his inconsistency...but I thought him to be a decent value here with tremendous upside should he and Palmer regain the swagger they had a couple years back. I'm happy with Chad as my #3 WR. smile.gif

4.03 Donald Brown - rookie. Yep took him over Joseph Addai, and honestly, may regret doing so. But Addai is never a sure thing as he's been nicked one way or another for much of his football career, both in college and the NFL. And what's not to like about Brown? He's quick, strong and demonstrated he could carry the load his senior season. Bill Polian is extremely excited about this kid and what he brings to the team...I'm excited too. Should Addai struggle, this kid could take the starting gig and never turn back. Part time numbers at worst...with a HUGE upside should Addai break a nail.

5.10 Houston is a team I believe will surprise this season. Key to their success is the health of Schaub no doubt. Kevin Walter represents on option on that team that should be available every play as defenses must focus on stopping Andre Johnson and Slaton. Single coverage all season long with a heady QB like Schaub will result in WR #2 numbers. He's my #4 and the perfect bye week filler and great insurance should Chad flake out.

6.03 DeAngelo Williams - yeah, tough schedule, but he's still a no-brainer keeper in the 6th. With Jonathon Stewart struggling to get healthy, I see Williams becoming a true work horse for Carolina this year.

7.10 Matt Hasselbeck is back and despite the ne coaching staff insisting they are going to run the ball much more...Seattle will be passing...a lot. TJ offers Matt a nice upgrade at WR, and John Carlson emerged as a force for them at TE last year. The division is ripe for passing yards as well. I suppose I could have waited on taking him as I already had Brees, but this way I keep him from helping any other team. :P

8.03 Tell me if Leon Washington was a reach here, AFTER the season. He's the most talented running back on the Jets roster. If they get creative with how to use the dynamo...his upside is Chris Johnson type numbers. Seriously. Thomas Jones is a good back who had a career type year last season, but he's another year older and may not return to the Jets next season. Which opens the door even further for a man with Washington's talents...

9.10 Baltimore - top tier defense. Plug and play...don't have to think about matchups. I like it.

10.03 Figured this diamond in the rough may not make it back to me in the 11th, so slightly reached for him here. Shonn Greene is the heir apparent for the goal line work in NY, with a coaching staff wanting to operate a power running game as they start the season with a rookie QB. Not expecting much from him this year to be honest. This pick was made with an eye towards next season, with Jones out of the picture.

11.10 Let's see...Burress - gone, Toomer - gone. Who is left to catch the ball for Eli? With no established #1 WR on the Giants roster, taking Nicks in this spot is a mild gamble. I feel he is their best WR option, with better size, strength and hands than those listed ahead of him on the depth chart. He reminds me a lot of Anquan Boldin, and will flourish once he adjusts to the speed of the NFL. Maybe he'll have an Anquan Boldin type rookie season? What a delicious dilemma that would afford the Ducks. :P

There's a draft going on? think.gif
Tommyknocker
I'll get in on this.

1.1 Jones-Drew, Maurice JAC RB Before the draft order was set I initially was hoping to get Gore but getting the #1 pick changed my whole thought process. MJD has been an outright stud and even with the increased work load I see no reason this wont continue. Very pleased to land him as my #1 RB.

2.12 Portis, Clinton WAS RB Keeper. Every year the word is Betts is gonna take away carriers and every year CP just keeps churning it out. Excellent value at the end of the 2nd round.

3.1 Smith, Steve CAR WR Keeper What can I say but SS is a steal in the 3rd round.

4.12 Holmes, Santonio PIT WR Just what I wanted as my #2 WR This is the year he breaks out for the entire year, Ward still is the possession guy but SH gets the big plays. Holmes may very well finish the season with top ten #s.

5.1 Lynch, Marshawn BUF RB Lynch fell into my lap here. Great bye week fill in or injury replacement or trade bait I was very pleased to find him here. He would have gone higher I am sure if not for his early season suspension.

6.12 Gates, Antonio SDC TE I had Witten pegged here but Gates will serve very well as my #3 WR. I usually dont even consider TEs but I wanted to round out my starters and he was by far the best option available at this point.

7.1 Schaub, Matt HOU QB Great potential here, alot of top notch talent surrounding him, he just has to stay healthy.

8.12 Palmer, Carson CIN QB I was really hoping Hester would fall to me here but instead I took a chance on Palmer regaining his old form.

9.1 Ginn Jr., Ted MIA WR Really wavered here between Hixon, Ginn and Smith, but decided on Ginn as my bye week filler as at least for now he is the Dolphins #1WR, albeit on a run first team.

10.12 Jackson, Fred BUF RB The Bills running game will benefit from TO keeping defenses honest and with Lynch to have a slow start I wanted this as a safety net.

11.1 Bennett, Earl CHI WR A young WR with alot of upside and now he has a real QB to throw it around. Besides Hester can get all the looks.

12.12 Bears, Chicago CHI Def Best D available at this time. No they arent what they were a few years ago but still top tier and now a much improved O that will keep the D off the field.

13.1 Bush, Michael OAK RB I am really high on Bush. Given the right situation he could put up top 10 numbers.

14.12 Robinson, Laurent STL WR The #2 WR on a passing team, good bye week filler and with Avery fighting injury all ready he could put up starter numbers.

15.1 Vick, Michael PHI QB Who knows, might the steal of the draft, no reason not to take a chance in the 15th round.

16.12 Bills, Buffalo BUF Def Bye week D and that week is a home contest against the Browns. Works for me.

17.1 Brown, Kris HOU PK A kicker like any other kicker, got to have one.

Overall I am pleased with this draft more than any other I have had in this league. Will that translate to a repeat as CHAMPION? You know it will!!!!!
BRING IT ON!!!!
