If he did, in fact, say that. It is only cocky but also stupid.

First rule of thumb when you're a big time dog on the road. Keep it close as long as you can and hope a few breaks go your way at the right time. Did he actually expect UT to try and get into a track race with those guys?

What about when Kiffin called the hitch and go on that last 4th down? He was swinging for the fences and if they take it the house,..

If the quote of Urban Meyer is accurate, I would say it is not his best quote. That being said, as a Florida fan, while Urban Meyer may be a joke to others, it appears that the Florida fans are the only ones who are laughing.

Then there's that. I can imagine just a handful of other schools who'd love to have a coach who's as big a joke as he.

Florida might not have blown out Tennessee like everyone was expecting, but Gators coach Urban Meyer isn't so sure the Vols' goal was to keep Saturday's Southeastern Conference spectacle close.

Tennessee, a 28-point underdog, lost 23-13 Saturday to No. 1 Florida in Gainesville. The Vols were within a touchdown in the second half and had possession of the ball. Yet Tennessee stuck with an extremely conservative game plan offensively, as coach Lane Kiffin felt it was their only chance to stay close to the Gators.

In looking back at the game, Meyer said Sunday he probably should have opened up the defending national champs' offense. But he said there was no reason to because of the Vols' conservative approach to their own offense.

"When I saw them start handing the ball off, I didn't feel like they were going after the win," Meyer said. "They wanted to shorten the game. I think that was the plan. There are 10 minutes to go and they're not in a no-huddle. It's 23-6 and no urgency [on Tennessee's part].

"The way we lose a game there is throw an interception. Why put yourself in that position? Let's find a way to win the game. We're not trying to impress the pollsters. We're trying to win the game. A lot of it had to do with the way they were playing. It made our life a little easier."

Tennessee quarterback Jonathan Crompton ended any possibility of a comeback with his second interception of the game and his fifth in the last two weeks.

Crompton might have been the main reason the Vols ran the ball early and often and even in third-and-long situations. He threw three interceptions and fumbled a snap last week against UCLA, and didn't seem a whole lot more comfortable against the Gators.

When the Vols did ask Crompton to pass, they either had him throw screens and quick-hitters, or they rolled him out of the pocket and reduced his number of reads and options.

"We asked him for improvement and we got that," said Kiffin, whose verbal jabs at Meyer and the Gators during the offseason led many to believe Florida would try to run up the score against Tennessee at the Swamp.

Or maybe he was playing within the talent that he has on the field, until Kiffin is able to make a move to a QB that can throw over 15 yards down field, TN will appear to be playing to keep every game close.

Well, there you have it. Doesn't change the fact that opening it up would have, in no way, helped UT's chances of winning that game. They needed to keep it close and get some help, which they actually got, to have a chance in this thing and they played exactly how you should play it when you're a big time underdog on the road. Anything else is foolish.

Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin says he put

Florida. Then he took one more shot at Gators coach Urban Meyer.

by the flu.
Kiffin said Monday that he didn’t want to respond to Meyer’s
comment.
But when asked whether he was worried about the flu hitting
Tennessee, Kiffin had this to say: “I don’t know. I guess we’ll
wait and after we’re not excited about a performance, we’ll tell
you everybody was sick.“

How petty is Meyer. Dude has the #1 team in the country and stoops to Kiffins level of running his mouth in the media, saying now his players may have swine flu. Meyer just shut up, Kiffin is schooling your ass in the media. And you know what, today you have Tebow, and a stacked D. But Kiffin is clearly building Tenn, and it wont be long when we are talking about will Kiffin run up the score on FLA, and they wont lay an egg trying to do so, then make excuses why the score was close. Tenn is going to drill them....

You seem to harbor a great deal of anger toward Urban.

I think he just harbors a great deal of anger. Urban just seemed to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Having PoPo on my side on this makes me understand what Augusta Natl. must have felt like when the KKK got their back in their whole mess with what'sherface.

Nope, but when you are supposedly the best team, why defend beating a rival. You won, let it go.

Simply think Urban is a lil cocky, and that and petty dont go together.

I think he is cocky as well. I think every coach who has had great success is a bit cocky. Is he petty? Maybe. He would appear to hold grudges and enjoy payback (I think of last year's Georgia game as an example). But we all have our faults. And as a Florida alum, I'm a much more likely to accept Urban's possible flaws than others might be.

Urb has enjoyed great success and hasn't really faced much adversity to-date. Will be interesting to see how the 'You're either a Gator or not a Gator' philosophy flies if a few losses happen to pile up in a slightly down year. I have a feeling he won't respond very well at all to the heightened media scrutiny and criticism if that were to happen. We'll see..

The season after he won his first Nat'l Championship, Florida lost four games. The following year he won another Natl Championship. I'm hoping he continues to handle adversity and criticism the same way.

That NC obviously bought him some time. And he had the perfect QB to fit his system. Not sure we will see another Tebow walk through that door in Gaineville for some time.

Urban won at Bowling Green. He won at Utah. He wins at Florida. Will he have a down year on occasion--certainly. Will he string 3-4 down years together--so far there is no evidence to indicate that he will. I guess we cross that bridge when, and if, we get to it.

And I'm not sure we see another Tebow in all of college for some time.

Meyer won at Utah and BG, because his offense was unorthodox like Navy vs Ohio St a few weeks back. Today, that isnt going to be the case, as everyone is ready for Meyers gimmick offense. Tebow is a difference maker, thus once he is gone, I see parity in this conference.

Regardless, Urban wins 2 NC games in 3 years with 2 QBs. Maybe, just maybe, we shouldn't be saying he won because he found the perfect QB.

Hold up, I get it. He didn't need the perfect QB to beat OSU, but he did to beat OU. Got it. And just how many plays did Tebow line up on D that game?

Geez, same story new day with you. I never said he needed the perfect QB to win, as he won before Tebow at different stops along the way. I said after he won the NC, he had the perfect QB to run his system. Seriously, do you know how to read, comprehend and then make an educated response, because you seem to take bits and pieces of arguments and try and fit it into your agenda.

If you recall I said before the 4 loss season, he ran what I/most considered a gimmick offense, even in the 1st NC season. Now teams know how to defend that system more as teams have seen it alot more, it isnt surprising anyone, like it did at other stops and even in his 1st NC run. Such as like the Navy vs OSU reference. But today, it doesnt matter if teams know what is coming and when it is coming, Tebow is good enough to make up the difference. And we will not see another Tebow walk through that door again anytime soon, so a lesser QB can still rack up stats in this system, but the play against Tenn, most Qbs are not going to get outta that trouble, and make the 1st down. And most Qbs are not 230 lb FBs who can hit wide open Wrs down the field. Which is why he doesnt have a position at the next level at QB, that offense wouldnt fly there.

I never said he needed the perfect QB to win you nitwit. I said he found the perfect QB to fit his system. YOu know the system his team runs on offense, that teams are no longer surprised about. And the FLA D won the 1st NC game, they destroyed OSU, and Ginn was a no factor after the opening kickoff.


I do not recall Tebow doing much of anything in the OU game, so clearly they didnt need him to beat OU. But they definately needed Percy Harvin to win that game, and without him, I doubt they win. Harvin was the difference maker, not Tebow in last season NC game.

For the record, I think Meyer is a very good coach. And he is a excellent recruiter. Every year they bring in more speed and Meyer finds ways to use that speed.

John Brantley is the real deal also once Tebow is gone next year.
