I avoided this thread initially as I have it on DVR for tonight but then one of Yahoo's story headlines talked about his defeat glare.gif

werd - fight was a giant turd - Kimbo didn't show anything from the bottom, and the dude didn't really scrap and battle to improve his position at all and he wasn't even getting hurt - these muscle-bound dudes like Slice have terrible stamina and gas way too fast.

I like Slice, and he may be able to rebound and do some damage in the house at some point but he is a one trick pony

a "supposed" good striker with heavy hands that appear to be slowing by the minute

I can't help but like Kimbo... seems like a real humble/nice guy, who wants to soak up as much knowledge from the experience of being on TUF as he can get. The problem is that he was WAY overhyped to begin with... I almost feel sorry for him in a way. His "heavy hands" certainly don't appear to be that heavy, at least by MMA/UFC standards. Maybe he knocked a few guys out in his prior fighting "life", but he didn't really even appear be a threat to his opponent last night. He's pretty cut, I guess, and the beard (and just his appearance in general) makes him LOOK intimidating, but once he's in the octagon, he's fairly harmless, really. Not as dangerous of a striker as he's been made out to be, no ability to defend the takedown, and once he was down, he was mounted in about 1.2 seconds.

His opponent didn't really impress me at all, either. The guy is fairly quick on his feet, for a fat guy, but considering that Kimbo did nothing offensively, it was far from an impressive win. I mean, if you lay on top of somebody for the better part of 5-6 minutes, and they are basically doing very little to defend themselves, yet you STILL can't do anything to hurt them or finish the fight, that's pretty sad. The referee did eventually stop it, but it appeared to be due to boredom more than anything else... Kimbo was just laying on his back, doing nothing at all to defend himself. For all we know, he could have been taking a nap... he wasn't in danger of being hurt by the fat guy at all. Like Dana said, little girls hit with more force. laughing.gif
Double Agent
I became of fan of his. He seems like he wants to get better. But the guy needs at least a year of Jiu Jitsu under him before his next fight.

Well, considering his "prior fighting life" he was pretty successful and that shouldn't be taken from him. Street fighters aren't professionals at the level of UFC, as we have all seen. I don't think he was over hyped at all. He was a big name due to Youtube and many folks in the industry didn't give him much of a chance against the MMA crowd. The fan base is what really made him popular. Now, when you start looking at him from an MMA perspective, he does look slow to me and not very quick. Does he even have a jab? During the show, he looks pretty stiff in the agility drills. I will say, I do like his humbleness and overall demeanor.

Well, Big Country was the champion of what?...the IFL? The last fight I saw him in Arlovski tore him up in the standup, but man he took some punishment for a while!

The fact that he's the reason that this is the biggest TUF ever (and he loses his first fight badly), to me, means he's over-hyped. I'm not saying that he doesn't deserve credit for what he did outside of the UFC/TUF... Like I said, I really like the guy, and he's surprisingly humble, etc. I just think that there are a lot of people who are going to be very disappointed if they expect him to do much of anything on the show, or in the UFC.

I see your point of view. I was hoping he wouldn't go down the first fight he was in and at least have a decent showing. Maybe he will win Dana over with his personality...unsure.gif
