except for Keg. It looks like Hamiltonwas on the Saintts last year and is not eligible for DTS.

Yup, otherwise I would have picked him up weeks ago. wink.gif

Ive always wanted to know. What happens in situations like this. Contracts are not necessary to win a bid, per rules. But if you assign someone to DTS and they are not DTS eligible, do we simply disregard the bid. Or is the bid valid, you just need a contract to put on roster. Seems to me since contracts are not necessary to win a bid, you are awarded the player. What you do after that is up to you. Im not sure Im in favor of just renouncing a bid, in this situation, when people bid all the time with no contract listed and they can assign one later.

Im simply asking how this is handled. Doesnt have anything to do with anyone involved. And I dont want to start anything here. Its a simple question.

my humble opinion was as you said, contracts need not be part of the bid, so the player is his. Now the owner can decide what he/she wants to do with the player.

Though in support of the said owner, which I know is going to be a shock for everyone here. He doesnt have the room on his roster to add the player, so he loses the player because he didnt list a drop which is in the rules.

Thats the way I understand the rule. Since he was not elidgable for DTS and didn't assign a contract he would lose the player.

I agree, but I think Keg should have the choice if he wants to drop a player & assign a contract or let Hamilton go. If he lets him go then I think he should go to the next highest bidder or be dropped back into the pool.

"4.1.3 FA Bid Process

(Para 3) Any bid that violates the roster limits without conditional release will be null and void. If multiple transactions are attempted, only the transaction(s) that violate the roster limits will be voided."

There was no other bidder.

IAW the rule as stated... the player will have to be returned to the FA pool. No other choice.

when I am not sure if a player is a rook I check nfl.com....for this i googled Lynell Hamilton nfl.com and this is the link http://www.nfl.com/players/lynellhamilton/...le?id=HAM277383

it shows as years experience 1yr...which i thought referred to this year....my bad...and I would expect to lose him back to the pool and I think I lose the bid too.

edit: fwiw if anyone ever needs this info...i just checked and they list players as Rookie (Moreno), 1 yr (Hamilton), 2 yr(McFadden) ....not sure why Hamilton wouldnt be listed as 2yr but like I said it was my bad.

Best let DKF know which person is not supposed to be on your roster because MFL shows 35.

Ahhh.... I looked and looked for Hamilton and somehow missed him completely.

Dallas Sooner
I too somehow missed Hamilton was already on your active roster. So the player is yours.

I wasnt trying to screw you out of the player, I was in support if you bid for him to go on your DTS and he isnt DTS eligible, then he goes on your active roster, and if that is full, he goes back to the FA pool. Nothing more.

And the easiest thing to do is look and see if the player has an R circled next to their name in MFL. That R stands for rookie.

Since there was roster space the player is his and he can assign whatever contract he wants. To me it's the same as attempting to assign someone a 5 year contract when there isn't enough space, you would simply get a notice from DKF saying the contract won't work please fix. In the case of roster space it's pretty clear if there wasn't room the bid is void.

So, keg can assign whatever contract he likes.

WOW, this maybe a first. Everyone agrees on something.

I wasnt trying to start a crap storm, as some have AIMd me suggesting I was. I want to make that clear. I thought Keg should get the player, and my question was, if there was roster space available, the bid should not simply be discarded because he thought he was DTS eligible.

fwiw, i responded to DKF without reading all the responses and once I did I never felt like you were trying to start anything

You know what Keg.......NFL.com has really screwed the pooch on their website. I have a feeling some 'yahoo' computer geek who (not so secretly) isn't a sports fan is running the website. I now only use it for the most elementary stats.

Used to be (last year and every year before that I can remember), if it said...
Experience: 1 season (not 1st.....1)
....that meant the player had one full year under his belt and is IN his second season.

Some non-English major must be part of the geek squad in charge.
It now says 'Experience: 1st season' which would definitely imply the player is IN his first season.....ie. a rookie.
When clearly under Hamilton's Bio, it shows he's been with the Saints for two years, 2008 and 2009. No explanation...just that he was in one game in 2008 with no stats. So he was technically on a team, however briefly, and not just a practice squad player for a full season....right?

So what's with the "1st season" crap?? Misleading.

Is there a distinction? Can you only call someone a 'rookie' if it is his first year trying to get on a roster and does, no matter how he got there, drafted or undrafted or switching sports? Otherwise the first time you make a roster (not a practice squad) after that first year trying is considered your 1st year?

Splitting hairs.....and baloney if you ask me.

LOL......sorry about the rant. I just hate the NFL.com site this year. Very hard to navigate and clearly not revamped by a sporting enthusiast. smash.gif

That is the distinction, 1st year means on a team for the first year, but not the first year trying to make a team. Rookie means first year on the team and first year that he tried to make a team.

We'll just have to stick with the MFL statuses and if they start screwing it up royally God help us.
