Full Version: Differences in strategic approach

Perusing the standings pointed out two interesting things in my mind at least. The average points per week is really bunched up from one position to the next, except for the drop off from 1st place to 2nd place (13.2 points) and from next to last and last place (19.1 points). Made me curious as to 4th and Goal's strategy. What exactly is he doing that is making his squad immortal on a weekly basis. Looks like a big part of his strategy is to find a game each week that he really feels one team will score a lot of points and pick 3 or 4 players from that team (in fact, in week 2, 8 of his 9 starters were from just two teams). This strategy has paid off in spades so far. thmbup.gif

Interestingly, I pretty much play the opposite strategy. I will rarely even play two players from the same team for fear if that team lays an egg, so will I. Apparently, I need to rethink my approach think.gif

Do any of you use a specific strategy or just throw darts at names on a wall?

Good observation, Puddy - somewhat correct. But , week 2 when I had 8 of the 9 players from two teams was my worst week so far. Actually my strategy is to look for a QB that I think will go off and then to pick at least two of his receivers (sometimes I might take his running back too if the running back seems to be used in the passing game.) Trying to random pick which receivers might score good each week is hard but I hope by my way I at least should come up with some touchdowns as well as at least one receiver with good yardage and number of receptions and maybe likely both if the team scores big. And then I hope for the best at the other positions. Is my QB - receiver strategy going to keep me scoring good? Who knows! Live by the three pointer, die by the three pointer (oh wait, that is basketball, but you get the point.) But so far the strategy seems to be working petty good. It is sure fun to have the QB throw a 60 yard touchdown pass to one of his receivers I am using - that is worth 20 points on one play! But, if the team I hope will have a good game lays that egg or the QB gets hurt early in the game, I could really loose since I tend to put most all the eggs in one basket. I did use this strategy last year and it worked good enough for 4th place (I believe) but it couldn't overtake whatever strategy Mike's Vikes used. I believe the reason I am on top right now, is that I got lucky and used San Francisco's defense last week. But yes, I think there is some strategy that can be used in this type of a fantasy game and that is what makes it so fun. Wish me luck tomorrow when I am using a QB and three of his receivers (wished I had done that last week which I almost did.) Maybe my strategy will be bad tomorrow and somebody else's will be good. But, that is the way I play this game. Any other strategies to share? Good luck to everyone and just have fun with this!

Well, there goes my strategy. It just laid an egg!

Last year my strategy was to use players that were playing whimps. This year my strategy is to play players in the wrong week.

Last year, I tried to pour it on as fast and as hard as I could. I wanted to have as big of a lead as I could get thinking that in the end of the year, you can't be sure to have a top player score top points for the week that you want him to.

Oh, so you are to blame. Thanks! I actually was going to blame Joe Flacco and his fellow Ravens. Really the only person to blame is me. Like Mike said, " played players in the wrong week." Not sure that I like that strategy. Nice to have some forum talk!

There is something to be said for consistency.

don't encourage me to be consistent, because if I try to suck next year I will probably win.

I'm basically playing matchups, but I noticed that the last couple weeks, I'm starting to run out of elite players, especially @ WR. Next season, as I told myself I would do this season, I'm going to plot things out a little better and have an actual plan rather than winging it from week to week.

I've been winging it but with some real luck.

I just finished creating a spreadsheet with the players I have left to help plan out these last seven weeks. nerd.gif
