Keg...what's going on with this guy? Is it going to get any better?
I haven't really seen enough Giants games this year to comment on how his play looks to the naked eye....but I did pull some numbers from the past few years....before I post them I am going to guess that Osi is healthy but has lost enough of a step from his injuries to make him just a fraction of a second slower and that means missing tackles and sacks versus getting them...
as far as snaps go he is playing a prominent role (per
ProFootballFocus)
Osi has played in 77% of the Giants defensive snaps (206 of 267)
I took a look at his previous production and IDP TOP and here is what I found:
Yr...........Tackles.........Sacks........IDP TOP
04..............58..................7............... .073
05.............70.................14.5........... .924
06.............31.................. 6.............. .058 (11 games played, missed 5 due to injury)
07.............52.................13.............. .073
08 out due to injury
09............13...................3................ .055 (thru 6 games)
Tackle Ops faced since 04
04:790
05:757
06:537 in 11 games(16 game pace was 781)
07:714
08:NONE
09:238 thru 6 games(16 game pace is 635)
So the only conclusion I can come too is that Osi while Osi has seen a decrease in his production that the limited number of tackle ops will probably keep him from bouncing back much if at all....fwiw, the diff between his .073 TOP in 07 and .055 TOP this year would be about 1 tackle/game so that would give hope of him being able to put up a pace of the 52 tackles and 13 sacks that he did in 07 but unfortunately even if he made such a minor change in his production it doesnt look like he will be able to see enough of an uptick in his TOs to get him to those types of 07 totals...unfortunately, what I think I am saying is that Osi owner (including me) are going to be disappointed for much of the rest of this year

EDIT: just checked and it looks like 7 of their next 10 games are against teams that are giving up below average tackle opps
