I guess being one of the new owners I could just silently sit back and not say a word, but this is a great league, but it also could use some tweaks on a couple of rules ( not now of course. I already stated my opinions about the IR rule, so I'll throw out another one. With this being a 16 team league with only a 13 man roster the waiver's process is definitely not what it should be. I've been fortunate enough to have a decent record, but that also has prevented me from signing any really significant FA's. I believe the best and fairest waiver's process is the Blind bidding or e-bay style bidding followed by a FCFS signing for any remaining FA's. I don't believe it's fair to the teams that have a good record to not let them have any chance at all to sign a top available FA. I'm in another 16 team league and we use that type of waiver process and it definitely works out he best. I'm sure everyone here is in multiple leagues that use that type of process. Just so you know, I'm fine with whatever we all decide on, but since I'm a part of this league now I feel that I can suggest certain things that might make it better.

We also use a variation in the drafting process which helps to even the playing a field a little for the teams that draft at the very end. Our league is a lot different than a normal 12 team league where you can still draft studs at the bottom. When you pick 16 and 17 the "so-called" studs are usually gone at RB,WR, and QB and then you have to wait a long time for your 3rd and 4th round picks. What we do is after the round 1 and 2 snake the 3rd round repeats the 2nd round ( 16 down to 1) and then the snake starts again and continues normally for the rest of the draft. This gives the teams drafting in the lower slots a chance at a higher ranked player. Again, not trying to change the whole concept of our league, but these 2 things have definitely helped the competitive balance of the league, but I'm okay with anything that we decide on as a league. The 16 team leagues I'm in are a lot more interesting than the 12 team leagues I've always played in and I'm happy to be a part of this league.

Both items noted... I will add these to the list of "rule change proposals" for next year. My thoughts on these are this:

Waivers - I personally don't think that there is a "right" or "wrong" way of doing waivers, or one particular process that, no matter what league we're talking about, always works "the best". I'm in redraft leagues that use blind bidding, others that process waivers based on record/standings (like this one), and also leagues that use a "rolling" waivers system, where you fall to the end of the priority list every time you use waivers, no matter what your record is. All three have advantages and disadvantages. I do agree that the waivers system we use in this league might mean that you're never going to have top priority, especially if you are at the top (or even in the middle) of the standings, all season long. In that sense, it does give an advantage to the teams at the bottom of the standings. I don't necessarily have a problem with that being the case.

Personally, I have been at or above .500 in this league all year, so far (knock on wood) unsure.gif, and have had no trouble acquiring most of the free agents that I have wanted to get. In fact, I would go so far as to say that, in this league, I wish some other owners would be slightly MORE active on the waiver wire... I feel like I have been able to acquire players that shouldn't necessarily have been available to me, considering my waiver ranking at the time. In other words, we have owners near the bottom of the league standings who simply are not taking advantage of their place in the waiver priority list. That is nobody's fault but their own, in my opinion, and there's not much you or I can do to improve league participation. However, given the lack of participation by some, I feel that moving to a blind bidding waivers system might actually cause an INCREASE in the gap between teams at the top of the standings, and those at the bottom. I don't necessarily know if that would be a good thing, considering the overall "well-being" of the league. Obviously, in a perfect world, every owner would be equally involved in participating in waivers, trades, setting lineups, etc., and in that case, I would be in agreement that blind bidding is a great way of handling waivers. We've got some work to do, as a group, before we are at that point, in my opinion.

Draft Order - Once again, I don't think there is a "perfect" system... The regular serpentine is kind of the standard way of doing redraft leagues, but I've also been involved in leagues where it "flips" to start round 3. As an owner who drafted from the 16 spot this year in this league, I can say that it definitely WAS painful, having to wait until the 48th pick to draft my 3rd player overall. think.gif That said, I think I was able to assemble a fairly competitive team from that draft position, nonetheless. Once again, I'm all for putting these types of things up for a vote, and will add this one to the list as well. I'd be fine with it either way, to be honest. We can either leave it as is, or change it... Whatever the majority decides. smash.gif

All of that said, I want to do my best to be an "equal opportunity commissioner." For that reason, I am 100% willing to put any rule change suggestion up for a vote, as I said earlier. Your suggestions are certainly welcome. I will begin working on a list of proposed changes immediately.

I can understand your point of view as well. As you say, there is probably no perfect system. I know you have another life besides commish in FFL, so please don't feel like there's any pressure to start worrying about next year. I just threw a few things out there, that's all. The other 16 team I'm in, we use blind bidding and that works pretty well. We also have 16 man rosters which I feel is too large for a 16 team league. You want to talk about some lean free agents. Anyway, thanks for all of your work and I'm definitely enjoying this league.
