Philadelphia Eagles proposed a trade with Seattle Seahawks :

Philadelphia Eagles will give

Gocong, Chris PHI LB
Guyton, Gary NEP LB
Year 2011 Round 1 Draft Pick from Philadelphia Eagles
$30 from philly

To Seattle Seahawks for
Austin, Miles DAL WR

I have to admit I am a little concerned with this trade from the Philly side. First let me say that I consider Jesse one of my good huddle friends and one of the best fantasy football owners I know. But it worries me a little that he is putting so much emphasis on winning this year with not a lot of reserve left for building a decent team the next few years. If there is a person that can make a one year run and then rebuild again quikly it is Jesse, but what happens if he is unable or decides not to return? Then whoever takes over his team is left with at least 2-3 rebuilding years. My biggest concern is the fact that after this trade his team will be left with 18 players on a one year deal:

Eagles, Philadelphia PHI TMQB 1
Benson, Cedric CIN RB 1
Austin, Miles DAL WR 1
Ferguson, Robert FA WR - - 1
Ward, Hines PIT WR 91 1
Wilcox, Daniel BAL TE - 7 1
Howard, Darren PHI DT 36 1
Rogers, Shaun CLE DT 56 1
Bowens, David CLE LB 53 1
Gilbert, Tony ATL LB 5 1
Peterson, Julian DET LB
1
Haggans, Clark ARI LB 55 1
Leber, Ben MIN LB 51 1
Thornton, David TEN LB 56 1
Bailey, Champ DEN CB 68 1
Hanson, Joselio PHI CB 47 1
Sheppard, Lito NYJ CB (Q) 23 1
Holt, Terrence NOS S - 5 1

Certainly nothing against this specific trade or the parties involved, but if we are going to have a rule in place for future draft picks maybe we need to look at a rule for something like this. Not sure how it would work, but IMO lack of future players can be a bigger roadblock for rebuilding than lack of draft picks.

I honestly can't see how this trade makes any sense for Philly to make. He is giving up a ton of cash, 2011 1st and 2 LB's with a total of 8 years and decent points along with a DTS WR for a LB with 1 year that has the same points as the either of the 2 he is giving away under long contracts. He is also getting the Flavor of the week Miles Austin who also has a 1 year deal. He also gets a 2011 3rd.

Just doesn't jive since he nows has no cash or picks. As Zia said about Jesse, he is a very good owner and smart FF guy, but this doesn't make sense

This trade is the flip side of the teams that sell off and become uncompetitive. Other teams sell out for the win now. I am unconcerned with either so long as it does not leave abandoned sucky teams that I have to try to fill.

I do note that this move was done in such a way that Philly has watered down its picks and cash for 2010/2011 but does not have to prepay.

That being said, it seems like a fair trade to me. I will however be peeved if the league is stuck with a wasted franchise that I cant fill.

I think all teams should have to prepay to trade future picks -- of any kind.

Thats my concern too. Just thinking maybe we should visit this scenario in the rules review next year.

Gah! When did this league become a "manage-by-committee?"

Let us each manage our own teams g-bash.gif If someone is willing to pay cash this year to build for next year, let them. And vice-versa.

I think Philly's strategy is ingenious. There should be a ton of value FA's next year because of the sheer amount of talent hitting the street.

I don't think there is anything wrong with this trade. It helps both teams. Philly now and me in the future, which is what I am trying to do, build for the future. I believe Zooty isn't going to bail on the league. He has been a great owner ever since he has been here.

Totally agree. But I have had other owners sell out and then bail and its a pain in the butt finding replacements. I am confident Zooty wont bail. But I really wanted to prepare the league for a discussion of prepaying the year in which you want to trade any picks.

when this discussion comes up, it should also include prepaying if you trade a certain percent of your RFA cash.

And that's pretty much exactly where I am coming from. Like I said in my first post on the topic, I am not so much worried about Zooty but I have seen it too many times.....an owner cashing it all in for one run. Then they are gone. sad.gif

I'll put in my 2cents.gif i really don't believe this league should regress to assessing and analyzing every deal.....if you pay for you're team, you own it;do what you want.....that being said i fully support rule modifications beginning next season that make pre-paying essential before ANY future picks can be dealt and also to limit the amount of tacos that can be dealt without prepaying. This imo would put big limitations on tanking.Owners are simply taking advantage of the rules as they are written.
