Some general comments having nothing to do with Zooty:
We need to have this discussion because team replacement is the hardest part of this job. BY FAR. Worse than RFA. Worse than FA and day to day moves. So when fret over a team being stupid and trading their assets for beans, or a team mortgaging the future to win it all, please understand that such actions have a very real impact on me, but if and only if the owners bail or dont prepay the future years.
Tanking, while destructive to the league, at least assumes that the owner will be back. I need these prepayment rules to go into effect so we are not badly injured by defections.
On a side note, I have a real fairness issue with owners who mortgage the future to try to win and then leave the team in shambles without prepaying. They basically took advantage of the rules to have more resources than the other teams and then never had to pay the piper. There was a certain owner in the Confusion league who had that MO ... and I can speak for everyone in Confusion that we did not appreciate it at all.
Good points, and I am certain we will have to deal with this situation next season.
1. WE need the rules committe back next offseason.
2. We need to firm up prepayment rules and lineup rules--basically just some solid rules that maintain the integrity and competitiveness of the league.
As for now, aint too much that can be done.
I'm here to help.

Just an idea.....not sure if it would fly for 32 teams or not, but here it goes:
We all pay $100 dues next year and it will go towards 2010 & 2011. Then once 2011 comes around, everyone pay their regular $50......which would go towards 2012. That way everyone is always paid one year ahead.

I think an easier sell would be to prepay for trading future draft picks. There are some jabronies in this league who don't trade picks, and others who trade away their whole draft.

I agree that would be an easier sell, but you already have 2011 picks that have been traded.

I fall into this category, and honestly I try to only keep the picks that will prevent me from prepaying. I have never had an intention of leaving this league, but I don't put a lot of stock into picks for this league since it is 32 teams. I mean a 4th rounder here is alike an 8th in a 16 team league, not meaning to state the obvious but.....
I would have no problem in paying $100 next year and then $50 from then on out just to show a committment to the league.
The only problem I have with paying dues when you trade away any future pick is it becomes hard to find people willing to pay dues for next year. A future draft pick that could of been had, suddenly is not tradable because of committment of dues. There's always going to be rebuilding teams, especially in a league this deep and I'm thinking paying up front will limit their ability to collect future picks.
Zia's idea of paying up front would work best. Make people committ up front and teams can do as they wish with their style of play.

Good points.
Anything to protect the league from teams that sell out all their future draft picks/cash and then leave us trying to find an owner to inherit and pay $$ for a mess of a team. Just doesn't seem right to me.
I am a team that trades his picks...i am also prepaid because of it(or so I think)
