Tough one to swallow, for sure... Lots of "IF"s in that one:
- If the Saints O-Lineman doesn't get hurt, with a minute and a half to play, the Saints basically run out the clock. Atlanta had one timeout left at that point (on 1st down)... a New Orleans injury is the only other thing that can stop the clock, at that point. Atlanta was then able to use their final timeout after the 2nd down play, rather than the 1st.
- If the Mike Bell "fumble" gets blown dead, due to forward progress being stopped, the Saints would have been able to punt with about 45 seconds remaining. Instead, Coy Wire strips the ball, and Atlanta gets it back with 1:30 remaining.

New Orleans challenged the play, but of course, you can't challenge whether the whistle SHOULD have been blown, so the play (and fumble) was upheld.
- If the Elam FG with 30 seconds left is spotted just inside the 30, instead of right on the line, it's a 3-point FG for Elam. Mike Tirico even said that it was a 39 yard try, then restated that it was closer to 40... that's how close it was. Talk about losing by literally inches.
Of course, Elam had already missed two FG's, including a chip shot that hit the upright, so the "IF"s go both ways, I guess. I'm not complaining... a loss is a loss, no matter how close. But, I had also pretty much assumed it was over, and that I would get the "W." Tough way to lose, for sure. It was one of two games in our league that were decided by less than a point, with multiple players going in the NOS-ATL game.
