8.1 Definition: Trades may involve players, draft picks, and roster moves (nothing else) from any number of teams. In the case of draft picks and roster moves, only draft picks and roster moves that would occur within the end of a single season and the beginning of the one following the next one may be traded. i.e. in the 2007 off-season, Rookie, Scrub or Veteran Draft Picks from 2008 may be traded, but NOT Rookie, Scrub or Veteran Picks from 2009.

Any thoughts on perhaps enlarging the tradable draft pick window? As it is, it could use a rewrite and clarification since it's a little unclear as to when our 2011 draft picks are actually tradable. Clearly, they are not now but I'd like to open a conversation of having them available earlier. Actually, I'll bet this rule has entered haziness, since it TECHNICALLY would prevent us from trading a 2011 draft pick before the 2010 draft.

In other words, what kind of dynamic would be created if 2011 picks were in the mix during this season and before the trading deadline?

Moving forward, this is actually one of the last things we should look at, since adding players is going to basically become very rare (10x/year per team prolly with most of them rookies)...

Huh. I didn't realize that was even a rule. I think we should allow picks to be traded one more year forward. So a trade in this season could involve 2010 and 2011 draft picks. Probably no further that than however.

I guess the only concern is someone trading picks that far ahead and not returning. It would be difficult to find a replacement owner, potentially. Maybe something along the lines of paying half of that years entry fee in advance if trading that far ahead. shrug.gif

I've seen leagues requiring full dues if you lose high picks and/or enough picks due to trades for that year before the trade can be completed.

So it is written, so it shall be done.

I recall this as a reason for the limit.

It could also be seen another way - say we need a replacement owner the 'new guy' would have access to those resources earlier than if not.

I think a simple 'calender year' rule should be introduced: once 2010 begins, you have access to your 2011 picks. We have the regular season trading deadline which theoretically opens up after our Norris Bowl. I cannot recall any trades that take place between then (usually XMas weekend) and the New Year...

I'm ok with making changing things... any of the above proposals are fine with me, but no matter what we decide that language really needs to be cleaned up.

"...and the beginning of the one following the next one..."

Yep, that's good stuff right there! laughing.gif
