It has reached that special time of year in Michigan again.
The summer is drawing to a close and the faintest signs of autumnal color
may already be glimpsed on verdant leaves.
The first frost of the season is not far away, still the waters of the big lakes are yet placid.
The sounds of children splashing playfully along the shorelines is replaced by the sounds of hunters in the woods.
The Canadian geese have arrived, if only for a short while as they follow the sun southward.

And for a few fleeting moments the hopes of Detroit Lions fans have again arisen with the approaching of September.
For certainly they think, this season will be different, the inevitable will surely be avoided.
Alas, these dreams are destined to whither and fall as surely as the leaves of summer will carpet the forest floor.
All that remains is the question which has haunted the minds of generations long past...

After a suprisingly good year with a possible wild-card berth on the line at 8-7, the Lions put up a stinker on the road at Tennessee in week 17.

Sun. Nov. 7 against the Washington Redskins. The 'skins lay the wood against the Lions as Clinton Portis goes for over 175 yards rushing. The Lions have no answer for the 'skins rushing attack. The only scoring Detroit does in this one is through the future Hall of Fame kicker, Jason Hanson. Detroit loses in a heartbreaker:
