Full Version: WAS MFN Opening skit intro inappropriate?

I don't know about you, but I actually thought MNF and their opening skit was WORSE than Janet Jackson, almost. It is 9PM, 6PM on the west coast. You have Terrell Owens in the locker room, and a lady in nothing but a towel with him. She says she wants him 3 times and he says he has to play football. Then she takes off her towel and he basically says forget the games, and she jumps in his arms..naked. Of course, you don't see much, but the sex is implied. And all this is a plug from a desperate network for Desperate Housewives. I just thought this was classless, tawdry, and totally not what I want to watch football for. mad.gif

I agree with you it was not the best idea. Wether or not if any of you like it, it is the whinny people who have nothing to do but sit around and complain about everything in the world that is going to cause the problem. The fact that the NFL is trying to clean their image up from the Janet Jackson halftime show I think this was a dumb idea. Again for you slow people who don't get it the first time I don't think most of us guys have a problem with this (just like most of us enjoyed seeing Janet's tits) but it is going to cause problems for other people who just look for something *** about and be unhappy.

Political correctness = the pussifying of a nation.

You can't please all the people all the time. I seriously doubt the majority of football viewers were offended. In fact, it plays right into most of the viewing audience (males).

Do you wanna pay to watch football? The FCC idiots are soon gonna make public viewing vanilla and boring......

BTW, I wouldn't have minded Terri Hatcher in that scene either sneaky.gif

Teri Hatcher is starting to look old. She is so overshadowed on that show by Eva. Eva is SUPER HOT!!!!!

I do not think that it was inappropriate at all. If you watch anything on TV, you will see alot of things that nitpickers complain about. Enjoy the stuff you see. People that say it was to graphic would probably not be saying anything right now if it was TO in the towel!!

I thought I saw a nipple. huh.gif
alexgaddis
actually, they did pan down to her bare crotch...it was amazing...

Sores
Peter King's take on it:

I think ABC Sports should be absolutely, positively ashamed of itself for the opening to Monday Night Football, in which Desperate Housewives star Nicolette Sheridan dropped a towel to the floor and jumped naked into the arms of a fully uniformed Terrell Owens. And that's a really nice example Owens -- who talks of being such a God-respecting, religious man -- is setting, letting a naked woman jump into his arms on national TV.
Skrappy1
I'm listening to the local sports talk radio (Mike and the Mad Dog) and they're going off about the skit last night. They tried to get ABC and/or the NFL to talk to them on air...the NFL is ducking them and ABC declined, though they said they will be issuing a statement within an hour.

I wasn't offended by the sexual nature of the skit (though I can see why people with kids could be), but I was kind of offended as a football fan. When are the networks (and ESPN) going to stop trying to give us a package deal with our sports, i.e. live musical acts, "sacked" skits, the stupid mockumentaries that ESPN does each Sunday morning...we like sports, just please give us that. Sports fans don't need the other garbage and no one who doesn't like sports is tuning into the games just to see the other nonsense. If we want to see that stuff, that's why we have the comedy channel, and not to mention porn. Enough already.

Edit:
The NFL just released like a 2 sentence statement that they read basically saying that it was ABC's fault and it was inappopropriate. laughing.gif

Why does this always have to do with kids? I don't necessarily think adults stripping off their clotches for football players in locker rooms and jumping in their arms belongs on basic television. Premium cable, like HBO, fine, but not on regular television, especially something like MNF where you know kids will be watching. There needs to be a safe haven and no one knew what they were getting into trying to watch a simple football game.
JoJoTheWebToedBoy
To tell you the truth, after the major over reaction to last years Costume Malfunction, I was pretty suprised that the NFL would of allowed it.

I mean, come on, they have too protect their pristine image rofl.gif

I don't think it's that big a deal, and just another example of marketing a little sleeze to make a few $$$... but it is annoying that the NFL will fine a player for minor infractions like the wrong socks or say, the number of your friend who was killed in combat placed on the back of a helmet... yet they're fine with a sex based marketing skit to open MNF. That's a little hypocritical... and after all the bad press from the Janet Jackson stupidness, you'd think they'd avoid something like this...

What we really need is a link to the skit. Now that would be appropriate sneaky.gif

I thought it was one of the better skits.
Sacked wasn't terrible either, brother's playing pranks on each other is awesome. The kids did great too.

My point of replying is I bet the opening skit does it's purpose.
Ratings next week will be higher.
Czarina
It was tied into their show. And on the show Nicolette Sheridan's character would do just what she did in the skit. And I thought it was funny that TO asked what was buried under the pool.

And to whoever said it earlier, yes, I bet a lot of folks had a tough time with it because it was a white woman and a black man.

TO: Hey.

NS: Hey there, Terrell.

TO: What are you doing here?

NS: My house burned down and I needed to take a long hot shower (she says seductively). So where are you off to looking so pretty?

TO: Baby, it's "Monday Night Football," game starts in 10 minutes.

NS: Oh you and your little games...I've got a game we can play (again seductively).

TO: Hey, this is major. We've got Parcells and the Cowboys...and Donovan needs me.

NS: What about my needs? What about Edie?

TO: Will you stop it...Just tell me what's buried under that pool.

NS: You know I can't tell you that.

TO: Then I've got a game to play.

NS: Terrell, wait...(drops towel)

TO:(Smiling) Aww, hell, the team's going to have to win without me. (She jumps in his arms) - cut to "Desperate Housewives" co-stars Felicity Huffman and Teri Hatcher watching T.O. and N.S. on TV.

TH: Oh my god, who watches this trash; sex, lies, deception?

FH: And that woman...She's just so...desperate.

TH: I know what we should watch. (She picks up remote and changes channel to "MNF.")

TH and FH together: ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL!!!!

I'm sure that was an issue for some, but not the majority of those who had a problem with the skit.

I am just going to throw out my two cents.

As a parent, I was offended. I wouldn't want to be sitting there with my ten year old son, getting ready to watch a football game and see that. That is what our society has become though. Parents have to be ready to explain immoral behavior at every turn. you can't turn the TV on without seeing something that two years ago would have been on cable only. You can't hide from it. Thank god my sons are only 2 and a half and nine months and were asleep since 7:30.

As a football fan, I was offended because I have to sit through that rubbish in order to watch a football game. It has already been said, but non-football fans are not going to watch the games because of junk like that.

As a guy, I thought she had nice bazooms.

Overall I think it was way over the top for a network sporting event.

It is probably too late for you, but when they are six months old or so and you know they can sleep through the night without eating, you let them scream bloody murder until they fall asleep.

It is hell for a few days, but after that......smooth sailing.

There is a book by a guy named Dr. Ferber that explains this method. Works great. Both my kids sleep from 7:30 pm to 7:00 am.

My son is 6 and always has gone to bed between 7:30pm and 8:00pm. I believe it is because my wife kept him on a schedule and stuck to it. I thought she was nuts that we always had to leave places because he had to go to bed. Now I'm reaping the rewards. Great kid, doesn't give us flack for anything always goes to bed without a fuss at 8:00pm. My advice is get them on a schedule and stick to it. Things will be much easier later.

That being said I completely agree with Ikirc:

And I'm a guy who like to watch this "immoral behavior". But there is a time and place for everything and this was not the time or place.
Missoula Griz
I thought it was very poor humor considering the audience. A lot of you huddlers dont have children and look at it as just another hot babe. It suggested much more then that.

My 8 year old son and I were sitting in front of the TV ready for the introduction when TO and the woman show up. As soon as the intro was over, he looked at me and said, "is that for real".

What message are we sending are children? Do I want my 8 year old son to correlate playing football with getting laid?

I realize sex is everywhere on TV, and it is becoming much more difficult montoring what your children view. But, Monday Night Football is sacred. I remember begging my parents back in the 70's to let me stay up and watch some of the second half.
