Backfield in motion: Running back Thomas Jones (toe) and linebacker Lance Briggs (foot) both practiced Thursday and were upgraded from questionable to probable for Sunday's game.
Jones has been sidelined since spraining his left big toe on the Bears' first play from scrimmage Oct. 31 against the San Francisco 49ers.
"We'll ease him back a little bit, but we anticipate him stepping in and being a big factor in the game this week," Smith said.
Jones, who has rushed for 511 yards and 5 TDs on 117 carries, may not start but should see quality playing time.
"We don't want to go that far yet," Smith said when asked if Jones will start, "but he'll be a big part of our game plan this week."
Replacement Anthony Thomas also figures to be involved after rushing for 280 yards and 2 TDs on 82 carries in Jones' absence.
"Both guys figure to play no matter what," Smith said. "Anthony Thomas has played well and has proven that he deserves some reps. We feel like we have two tailbacks that we can use this week."
