Muck had an intersting post about underperforming rookies. How 'bout flipping that around in the positive direction. Obviously, Roethlisberger has got to be listed as the top surprise among rookies. You can't refute 7-0 and the poise, pocket presence, and skills this guy has shown.
Michael Clayton has done some great things in Tampa and looks to be the "real deal". It was somewhat interesting on the final episode of Dream Job when the final two contestants got stumped on the question "which rookie wide receiver has the most receptions in the NFL this year"? Roy Williams was one of the guesses; I don't recall the other.
Speaking of Roy Williams, obviously he's been a stud when healthy. This guy's made some spectacular catches.
On the defensive side of the ball, I've heard a lot of great things about Jonathan Vilma. Sounds like he's doing a great job for the Jets and ha solidified that defense.
Nate Kaeding has been solid in the kicking game for the Chargers, converting on all but one FG attempt.
Oh, and as a Chargers homer, I have to mention two names on the O-Line that most people probably haven't heard of: Nick Hardwick (3rd round) and Shane Olivea (7th round). These two rooks have done a stellar job and are major reasons the Chargers offense and Drew Brees have really turned it around this year.
