Oooooh - someone is defensive today!  laughing.gif  FWIW - my European ancestry is more German than anything else.  But my people left long before the whole Nazi thing went down.

Fill me in, Spain - what of your Southern heritage fills you with such pride?

I am not defensive about the Germans since I am not of German ancestry. You just made an incredibly stupid statement about persons of German ancestry not having any cultural pride, and I corrected you. Thats all. Again, southern white males are the 1 minority group that is fair game to denigrate however you see fit. Our pride in our heritage is ridiculed, while all others who have cultural pride are seen in a positive light. More p.c. double standards..

Your view of the south and our heritage is tainted by everything you see and hear in the media. That is why you and so many others are just so ignorant about who southerners are and why we see the world differently than you. Your attitude is indicative that you arent sincerely interested in my southern heritage, but is poised to pounce on what you see as an inferior culture.

It is strange that those in the North forget that they did not turn their backs on slavery until the start of industrialization, and that industrialization that everyone is so proud of was in dire need of the raw materials produced in the South. The origin of the civil war was very political in nature, but had little to do with slavery. The northern states were dependent on the raw materials produced in the South, and thus were against sessession, because they did not like the idea of having to pay tarrifs on these materials. The South wanted sussession due to the deterioration of states rights, that is still evident today.

I am southern and northern and all of the bs about pride in Southern cultural heritage is just that, bs. It is an excuse for insecure and defensive people who still sting from a 150 year old asswhipping to be idiots.

That being said, as Asz points out, the losing battle flag of a whipped seceding region wrapped around some senior in high school's rather wide bum is in bad taste and not cultural heritage.

Spain, you ignorant slut.

First of all, I referred to the decendants of Nazis, not all Germans. Second, and more important, I never said these Nazi spawn were not proud of their heritage. Rather, I suggested that these people, like you white southerners, should not be proud of your heritage.

I know you asked this of Spain, but let me add my two cents.

I am not extraordinarily proud of my southern roots, nor am I ashamed of them. I am very proud of my home state, the great state of Texas, home of George W. Bush, and the Dallas Cowboys. I am proud of the cowboy tradition. I am proud of the tradition of southern gentlemen, and manners. I am proud of my Southern Baptist up bringing and the morals that it has given me, though I admit I disagree with some of the doctorine of the church. I am proud of being able to live off of the land if I had to. Most of all, I'm proud of our fine breeding stock that produces much better looking women than the North does, at least when they have all of their teeth. biggrin.gif

Yes, I could live of the land if I had to. I would depend more on wild game and fish than I would on farming, but my back yard garden generally does pretty well. Not all Southerners could do this, but I'd be willing to bet that a lot could. It isn't formally taught, it is just something that fathers and sons do as a form of bonding. Some of the best times I rembember of my grandfather were out at the deer lease. Dad taught me to read tracks, and to call in turkeys. How to shoot, how to fish, and so on. Most of my friends growing up were taught the same by their dads. I'm sure the real red necks learned a lot more. Me and most of my friends were upper middle class. It is just part of the tradition of growing up in the South.

The only time I have ever fired a gun was off of my in-laws' back porch. There are deer and turkeys and all kinds of animals running around in PA. I think you are tallking about something specific to rural areas rather than necessarily Southern areas. There are a lot of hicks up North too.

Not saying there's not enough shame to be spread around about race relations in this country by any means.

However, the North didn't secede from the Union to protect the institution of slavery. And the North wasn't en masse on a sectionalist level doing everything it could to prevent segregation from ending (to the point of abandoning both major political parties as recently as 1968).

Your test uses SAT and ACT scores to measure IQ. While they are an accurate way to measure knowledge they are far from accurate in measuring IQ. Also, do realize how many people in Texas can barely speak english? I'm not talking about being grammatically correct, I'm talkng about common usage. The only acurate way to measure IQ is to take an IQ test. Also you have idiots like me that take the SAT while they are still drunk from the night before. I only scored an 1140 on the SAT and a 25 on the ACT, but I have an IQ of 145.

But how many up there can do it in their own back yards?  We use deer leases, primarily to get away from the wives, but if I wanted to, I could shoot a deer of my back porch.  Hell I almost pissed on one about a week ago, *** thing was right under my balcony. laughing.gif
