skylive5
People buy michael (i've never seen a little boy i didn't like) jackson records.... can you expect them to have any more discretion in the movies they go to? Heck... for the last 50 years TV shows have been set to the lowest IQ's in this country. You can't beat success when it comes to generating 'entertainment' for the great unwashed. cliaz
Hollywood doesn't care what it puts out anymore as long as people spend the money. Hell even Spielburg has slipped in his old age. Though War of the Worlds was a sick movie, it's still not his. Will there ever be another Goonies? ET? Close Entercounters of the Third kind? Raiders of the Lost Ark? Style movie. I doubt it, I think all that hollywood has left is remakes and brings Hip Hop Stars into movies so people will go see them. It's a shame too. I think the last great movie Hollywood put out that was well written was Gladiator. PS - I mean if a movie about ghey cowboys can win awards, what the hell does that say about us? Funny that, because that's a certainty to keep me and millions like me away. It's a shame too. Chavez
I mean if a movie about ghey cowboys can win awards, what the hell does that say about us? 1252415 Settle down, sport; Ang Lee has proven himself as a great director and by all accounts it's a well-written, well-acted movie. Your being 'fraid of queers doesn't have any impact in the least on the quality of the film; heck, I think Forrest Gump is a reprehensible piece of propaganda but it's certainly well-made. I think the last great movie Hollywood put out that was well written was Gladiator. 1252415 Just off the top of my head, here's some stuff that has come out in the past couple years: Walk the Line - formulaic, but lifted above it by great performances by Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon Collateral - implausible but highly entertaining IMO Layer Cake - smart gangster flick (okay, this one is cheating since it's actually British, i.e. not from Hollywood) Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind - Charlie Kaufman definitely isn't for everyone, but this is one of the best sf films to come out in quite a while The Incredibles - if you didn't like this film, you probably just don't like movies Master and Commander: Far Side of the World - I really liked it; probably the manly-man mannish sort of man movie you are probably looking for

Read a f'n book. 1253958 AMEN! I am continually baffled that 1) someone comes up with ideas like these movies, tv shows, etc 2) some network or studio supports it, and 3) people, en masse, suck it up like a $2 ho. Honestly, when I see the previews for most of the new network shows(especially the reality chit), I am embarassed to be a human being. How are people entertained by this garbage?
