Cover Versions

We've done a ton of music threads before so how about another one? This time the idea is to list your favorite cover versions, including the song, the covering band and the original (or the most well known version). Some covers are better known than the original, but that's fine, list 'em anyway.

Here's 10 to start:

All Along The Watchtower - Jimi Hendrix (Bob Dylan)

Like a Rolling Stone - Spirit (Bob Dylan)

Get Out Of Denver - Eddie and the Hot Rods (Bob Seger)

The Right Stuff - Monster Magnet (Robert Calvert)

A Little Help From My Friends - Joe Cocker (Beatles)

No Fun - Sex Pistols (Iggy and the Stooges)

Whisky In The Jar - Metallica (Thin Lizzy)

If I Were A Carpenter - Chicken Shack (Bobby Darin)

Reason To Believe - Rod Stewart (Bobby Darin)

Little Wing - Stevie Ray Vaughan (Jimi Hendrix)

I think I got completely flambeyed for this once before, and I am 100% sure it's gonna happen again... but I swear to you, Hanson, yes Hanson... did an extremely good version of Steppenwolf's 'Magic Carpet Ride'. Really. No, I do not own a Hanson CD. No, I have never downloaded any of their songs. I said "their" songs. :D I was flippin' my DirecTV around one night and stumbled upon Channel 100, which from time to time shows free concerts. Hanson was on... playing THAT song, no I didn't sit and just happen to catch it.

Beggar's Day - Nazareth (Crazy Horse)

Roll over Beethoven - ELO (Chuck Berry)

America - Yes (Simon and Garfunkel)

The Loco-Motion - Grand Funk (Little Eva)

Hmmm.

HelterSkelter - Siouxsie and the Banshees (Beatles)

An outlandish pair:

Nights In White Satin - The Dickies (Moody Blues)

Eve Of Destruction - The Dickies (Barry McGuire) - they actually got through this song in one third of the time for the original.

actually blue moon revisited by them is very cool as well. in fact, i highly recommend their album, 'the trinity session.' awesome stuff - very mellow and moody, in a good way.

Just picked up 21st century blues by the junkies. They cover Springstein, Dylan, George Harrison, Lennon & richie havens. Not bad. Sweet Jane is my favorite cover. Trinity sessions is great. :D
