Caveman_Nick
oh wait i forgot they also did a really great cover of 'sweet jane'. so except for those TWO covers, they suck. 1274578 I think they might have done a Crimson and Clover cover as well... And how could anyone forget this cover of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" by Jake Shimabukuro Edited January 19, 2006 by Caveman_Nick

tonorator
hold on, i think i may have one of the best covers ever (seriously) ... i don't think anyone can argue that manfred mann kicked out the jams on springsteen's 'blinded by the light' ... i do know springsteen recorded the song, but i'm not sure if he did it before or after manfred mann - he did write it. Kid Cid
Summertime Blues - Rush (Blue Cheer) 1274537 I've never heard Rush cover this, but The Who certainly did.

rajncajn
Extensive & up-to-date list. However it's a little slow to load. I had one that I was going to post as a joke & I've been racking my brain trying to remember the song & who did it. It's playing on the pop channels and is a remake of an 80s song by a band with a female singer.
Itsnottatooma
I've never heard Rush cover this, but The Who certainly did. 1275261 It's off of their "all-cover-tunes" EP, "Feedback" http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00028HBI...=music&v=glance Most of Rush's tunes are serious in nature. This EP of a bunch of old rock standards where they cranked it up to 11 and jammed is out of character...and cool.
skylive5
Heard a cover of Orbison's Crying yesterday.... don't know who the guy was but someone should have told him that he didn't have the voice for that song. Made me want to cry having to listen to it.

Chavez
Nirvana - Plateau (originally by The Meat Puppets) The Bangles - Hazy Shade of Winter (Simon and G) 1000 Homo DJs (Ministry side project) - Supernaut (Black Sabbath) - I like the looser feel of the original, but this tune "roolz" as the teens might say Johnny Cash - pretty well anything he's covered; that voice of his speaks with the authority of Mt Rushmore in darn near any interpretation - "Bridge Over Troubled Water", "Hurt", "Personal Jesus", etc etc. Roseanne Cash - I Still Miss Someone (Johnny Cash) Tom Jones and Art of Noise - Kiss (Prince) Led Zeppelin - When the Levee Breaks (Memphis Minnie)
Chavez
Oh, and as a metal connoiseur, I must anyone advocating any post-black album cover songs done by Metallica. Nuh-uh.
Itsnottatooma
Great tune, not a cover. 1276737 I had it backward - My extensive research just now on goooogle revealed that the RAMONES covered the Motorhead song as a bonus track on one of their CD's. I always just assumed it was the other way around. I prefer the original Motorhead version tho. Thanks for bringing it up. I thought I knew all there was to know about the Ramones. Back to the books. Ursa Majoris
Hey Joe ---- Hendrix 1274793 Spirit covered Hey Joe on Spirit of '76, outstandingly well. Possibly the only superior cover of a Hendrix track that I can think of, aside from Stevie Ray's Little Wing.

It consists of live-in-studio remakes of a bunch of their classic tunes. I got a line is 7+ minutes. Rockin!

Furd
And of course, there is the Black Flag version of Louie Louie, which is probably a version of the Kingsmen's version of Richard Berry's song.

frenzal rhomb
Great tune, not a cover. 1276737 Actually, the Ramones used to cover that song in their live set. Seen em 19 times and they played it alot. Cjay changed hit the gas to Markey takes it up the ass. Funny.
Chavez
Few more I thought of: Pixies - Head On (Jesus & Mary Chain) Primal Scream - Motorhead (Motorhead, duh) - love this one; PS are the fatherless male offspring of the MC5 and the Jesus and Mary Chain Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah - don't know how I forgot this one, since I'm yapping about how great it is every chance I get, normally
