7 more reasons to come to the promised land.  Most of you call it Texas.  Us lucky ones call it home.

I like Texas's laws. the only thing that bothers me about Texas is it is hard to get a criminal extradited out of the state to face charges in another state if the criminal has connections.

At least that is how it used to be, they may have changed it over the last few years..have not kept up.

Texas does offer many benefits; the state was good to me.

But I don't miss the hurricanes, thumb-sized tree roaches, heat, or humidity.

Well, see..if it was me..I would wait for the guy to kick my door in..then blast him.then noone could say anything.

We were speaking of a different circumstance.

The fact that you call me dumb when I am telling you something that has happened on more than 1 occasion tells me you have no idea about a situation like this. thus you have no reason to add anything to it.

So why don't you head on back to your kiddy porn site and let the people interested talk...thanks little fella. :D

Well, Doc, as a lawyer and gun owner who has a particular interest in police and police procedures, I can tell you that you are not making any sense, and I will suggest that you have no idea as to what you are talking about..

I have taken advanced shooting courses, which have included instruction on how to handle home invasions. I know cops and prosecuting attorneys. Rather than spend more time typing, I am going to cut and paste something from another message board:

" Your first mistake is going to investigate. As an NRA instructor I teach people to create a safe area in the house were everyone who is supposed to be in the house is there and accounted for. Next stay there and call the police. While you are on the phone with the police announce to the intruder that you are armed and you don't want to shoot. Never use the word kill. Stay there until the police arrive. If the intruder comes to you then you must do what you must do to protect yourself and your family. If you are forced to shoot at the intruder at least 911 will you on tape announcing the fact that you are armed and do not want to shoot. Chances are before the intruder comes to you they will leave after you annouce that you are armed and the police are on there way. Remember that when the police get there they will not know who you are and they will be a little apprehensive towards you until everything is figured out. Please be smart and when the police arrive make sure to not have your firearm pointed at the police. Don't be a hero be smart and stay alive to enjoy your family. Never go and investigate a possible break-in always call the police immediately. However be prepared to do what you have to do to protect your life and lives around you. I know that I am. "

I agree completely with getting a dog. Im sure you can get the dog professionally trained as far as being around this kids which someone brought up which is a very good valid point. and Maybe some visable video surveilance. I know it might get a littly costly but a video of these bastages would help get rid of them..Sorry that this happened to you.

so you're telling me that on more than one documentable occasion, somebody shot a dude out in their yard, then dragged his dead body inside and staged it so that it looks like that's where he was shot, and got away with it? :D

do you think the cop was REALLY advising you to take such a course? or was he using it as sort of a colloquial way of saying "you can't legally shot 'em unless they're in your house"?

also, something tells me i have a little more insight into criminal law and criminal prosecutors than you do. just a hunch, though.

I have had a jobsite get hit three times in the last month. Bastards affter copper. They were taking it out of trailers, hangers in the ceiling and even sawing it out of the walls. They finally caught the bastards Sunday, after they had stolen in the neigborhood of $6000 in copper pipe and wire, and $4000 in welding equipment.

Furd..I thought you was from Detroit? How could you be a lawyer and not understand what I am saying. no offense, but I would want you as my lawyer. before I go on..are you not from Detroit( or the suburbs around) ?

I am going to move on as though you are from at least Michigan. you know there is no self defense laws in Michigan..now if you can admit that..you can admit that if you have no witnesses on your behalf..and you shoot a guy on your property but not in your house..you are going to jail for murder..flat out. at least manslaughter charges at the least. Ok..we move on from there..

call 911..that is all good if you have time..that is also a good way to create a alibi for yourself..I am all for this if you got the time

next... who in the freakin world that just shot a robber is gonna point that same gun at the police when they get there..of course unless they just committed a crime themselves..that would be a different circumstance.

Don't go investigate a possible break in...I mean..depending on the circumstances..lets say you are downstairs and your children are upstairs and you are worried for your children...I know I am headed right up there to look after my child..but once again..this would be a different circumstance..

Now..creating a safe room for your self at your home is all good and stuff if you are in a tornado..but to me..my whole house is a safe place..when I defend 1 room I am defending them all..as I said in that post..if I see them outside..I would wait for them to break in..then shoot them. if they are outside..I am gonna have my lady call the cops and head on out ..my alibi would be being created on the phone so the most I would be facing outside is the weakest manslaughter charge. which depending on your past record could possibly be probation. once again..another circumstance..

As far as your advanced shooting classes...that is all good if you had to take advanced shooting classes..I bet you are in the city where you cannot perfect your shooting without going somewhere designated...luckily I was a " advanced" shooter at the age of 10 ( thanks to coming to Tennessee for the summers).. that all being said..this does not matter in this debate..you only wrote it so maybe you could crate the " alibi" that you know what you are talking about.and I am sure you know quite a lot..I am also pretty sure you have never defended a man on a murder charge .

In Texas, we can shoot them in the back anywhere on our property. I was asking a game warden and a cop about this just last weekend.

I'm sure I could claim it under my business or my homeowners, but I think the raise in my premiums would end up costing me more in the longrun.

You may be able to take a theft-loss deduction on your 2006 personal or work income tax return, FYI.

Nope, the job site was right on interstate, and the cops supposedly go by there at least once an hour. You'd be suprised, down here we rarely have to hire security guards. I've only hired one in the last 10 years, and haven't had anything stolen in that time period. The problem is the price of copper is through the roof, and approching the cost of silver.

part 1 here = that is exactly what I am telling you

part 2 here = the cop was telling me to drag him into the house or you will get a murder charge. I think that is what I already said, is it not? not that it mattered what the cop told me as I already knew this ..I used the cop as my " alibi"

part 3 here = I bet you do know a bunch about the laws themselves...but I got a feeling I know more about this particular arguement than you..just a hunch of course.

So huddlers are having copper and other metals stolen from them?  That Bush economy sure is a peach.  Better put your flour, salt, duct tape, frankincense and myrrh in the safety deposit box while there's still time.

No different than Kenneth Lay and Jack Abramoff voting republican. Well, except crack dealers and users have a more difficult time pilfering your in-laws pension plans.

The reason that copper is so high is because the increase in the building sector, thus the increase in demand, and the increase in cost. So, in a sense, it is because the economy is roaring that the copper was stolen. Than and becuase China is building like crazy too.
