Pop ups

Recommended Posts

Here is one that I got this morning. It attempted to download a file called pre.emf from Adgate.info

Since I'm at work, it must be similar to this. :D

I had to close down IE because The Huddle Forum page was locked. I've never had pop ups at work before that wanted to download files. If it was at home, it could've been from many other sources from who knows when.

I have Google Popup Blocker enabled on my browser & for the first time today I've noticed an abundance of popups being blocked. I clicked to allow one so that I could inform you about it and it said it was from ad.yieldmanager.com.

yieldmanager.com seems to be a major culprit. I have 3rd-party cookies blocked and my reports are that they are the ones trying to set most of those nefarious cookies.

Surfing around the huddle as usual this morning :D, click the back button, and all of the sudden I get this: Popup I have the volume at "a reasonable volume", so some guy in the add goes on a 5 minute spill about how lucky I am, and I get to choose my free product. :D In amusement, I sit here and listen to the add, wondering how long this guy is going to keep talking. I'm sure I really was a "lucky guy" and only 1 in a 1000 huddlers are getting this, but just wanted to let you guys know. BTW, I'm sure a simple pop-up blocker would have taken care of it, but I have mine disabled at work. Just a heads up. It's definitely "invading" in nature.

As I finish this post, I notice I'm getting the popups in bunches of 4 or so at a time. This is not good.... :D

Ran into my first problems this morning. A popup came up with 4 segmented windows with ads in each. When I closed the ad, 3 more pop-ups came up. Sorry, I didn't get the sites, but, if it happens again, I will make note of them.

I've been running all morning, no problems yet. I even disabled 'No Script'. BTW...there is an update for firefox.

Edit for:

This thing seems to be acting like the flu....some are getting nailed and some aren't. Interesting. :D

Thanks guys. We are compiling all this info with stuff from the other posts to pass along to our ad provider. This will be a big help as they hunt down the offending clients.

I'm not sure what this means (if anything) but I just ran Spybot search and destroy and found three problems labeled "firefox (default): ehg-thehuddle.hitbox.com"

No idea if that's a problem, or not. But thought I'd share.

Those are friendly. That is the code we use to set cookies for our web analytics software with Web Side Story (hitbox). Completely harmless... unless of course you don't want us knowing what pages within The Huddle site you hit... :D

For whatever it is or isn't worth.... still no pop ups for me, but I don't see any banner ads either.

I'm running IE, with Norton AV, MS anti spy ware, Webroot anti spy ware and webroot Window Washer, which is a pop up blocker. Those all run actively.

I sweep with those, as well as spy bot and Alluria anti spy ware.

It seems that the Window Washer program is blocking the banner ads...? Maybe it sees them as pop-ups? Don't know if this is helpful ot not, but, I figured I'd mention it. That program does not notify me if something has been blocked.

I logged out of the forums for a while and when I just logged back in I got five pop-ups in a row. Each time I loaded a new page in the Tailgate I got one of the following pop-ups
