WSOP Update

Man, a $10,000,000 buy in?

Talk about stones!

:gulp:

Who has the money to make that post?

Ivey. Yes ... obviously.

Lederer. Yes ... his profits from PokerStars alone allow him to make that call.

Negreanu. Yes, probably.

Doyle Brunson? Maybe.

Phil Hellmuth. Yes, possibly...but, he rarely plays cash games ... which is where the biggest money is made.

Who else has that kind of bankroll to risk that much on one sit at the table?

Apparently, Phil Hellmuth was going for #11 ... but just fell short.

Isn't he also trying to keep the POY title? If so, he just moved ahead of Jeff Madsden with this 3rd place finish.

I believe that Cunningham won the POY last year. Don't think that Helmuth has ever won the POY for the WSOP.

And, I thought that Phil Ivey was the one that dug them out...

That is correct - Ivey dug them out last time they squared off. The first time they played, which was the subject of Michael Craig's book (The Banker, The Professor and The Suicide King, great read for poker fans), I believe that it was Todd Brunson more than anyone else who did the most damage to Beal.

Jamie Gold Wins!!!

No Limit Hold'em Main Event

Aug 11, 2006 / 06:43:44 EDT

Jamie Gold limped, and Paul Wasicka checked his option. The flop came Q85, Wasicka bet 1.5 million, Gold moved all in, and Wasicka called. The players showed:

Jamie Gold Q9

Paul Wasicka 1010

The last two cards were A4, and Gold won the hand -- and the 2006 World Series of Poker Championship -- with a pair of queens. Paul Wasicka finished in second place, earning $6,102,499.

Jamie Gold won the 2006 WSOP Main Event, earning $12,000,000, the most coveted bracelet in the world, and the title of World Champion.

I too would like to thank all for the continuous updates.

Now all we need is a readout of our final standings and another year of the WSOP is over. :D

Will get that today... and with Hellmuth placing again, that may throw off some of the if no one significant places caveats from the earlier discussions
